Hi all- I've not been on the forum for a few weeks. But to update, I had my consult w/Dr Curry and crew on March 4th. Spent several hours at their facility making the rounds with the psychologist, the nutritionist etc. Got approved for surgery and am now on day 3 of my pre-op diet. Surgery is scheduled for April 20. Trying to focus on just one day at a time. Feeling positive!

Barborossa Hi - and thanks for the welcome and encouragement. I am looking forward to Dr. Curry's info session scheduled here in Columbus next week. I have lots of questions after reading several threads here. Your experience was helpful to read after I read the *slow losers* thread. Not sure that I can make the Feb 14th gathering but will try planning for March. Where exactly in Polaris do you meet? saej
  4. The info session with Dr. Curry is here in Columbus, which I was very happy to learn about, although I was ready to drive to Cincinnati. I am glad I found this thread.
  5. Hi-new on this thread. I am attending a Dr. Curry info session in the next couple of weeks. I am likely a self payer and found that the cost is less than Mt. Carmel here in Columbus. I am happy to know that people have had a good experience and that others even travel a bit to get his services. Thanks. This is very encouraging.

Hello-I have only posted once or twice here, but I live in the Columbus OH area (east.) I originally went to a Mt. Carmel West info seminar early 2008, but didn't go beyond asking a few questions of my insurance carrier. As a probable self payer, the cost of banding, particularly the pay upfront requirement, was a little daunting. I recently went to another info session at Mt. Carmel East and actually have completed all the paperwork, but haven't mailed it yet. Since I'm still reading as much as I can find about banding, I learned that the wt loss center in Cincinnati, w/ Dr. Curry, is significantly cheaper than mt Carmel, and they seem to have performed significantly more procedures than mt. Carmel. I would prefer to stay close to home, but a several thousand dollar cost savings is nothing to sneeze at. Anyone else here use the Dr. Curry center as a self payer and can offer any insight or share your experience? Thanks in advance. Moving forward!!
  7. Hi-I've been reading the forum off and on but finally decided to join in. I'm almost completely new to the process, having only gone to a Mt. Carmel info sesssion earlier this year. No paperwork, but did inquire about it with my insurance carrier who told me no, no, no in no uncertain terms. I am still moving forward and building "the fund" just in case it's all on me. I just celebrated by 51st birthday and am weary of fighting the weight battle. My hubby had the bypass surgery several years ago in Cleveland and has had good success. Had I not been in denial I would have done something then as well, since our insurance carrier at the time was more agreeable. I want to have the lapband so am really interested in what people have to say about the surgery, the costs etc.. I am particularly interested in the docs at Mt. Carmel East. But am willing to consider other providers in Ohio. Thanks for this venue. It helps to know that I'm not alone.
