Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!! Im got banded on Friday October 10th in Cancun Mexico. So i guess im on day 5 post-op and i feel like someone died. I can't belive what a food addict i was before i got banded!!!! Im literally mourning my old food habits. Im like borderline depressed just thinking about 'my last supper' and the burger i had from Chillis the day before i left. Ive been sucking on gatorade, chicken broth, Water and teeny weeny bits of Jello and im soooooooo sad. Believe or not, i actually gained 1 1/2 pounds 2 days after surgery, but now im showing a 1 pound loss (day 5). Im thinking this is because i started weighing 200 lbs, so my weight loss might be slower. Im having tons of gass pain...and my port site is killing me. It hurts to laugh and cry. So now i just have this shocked look on my face all day. This better be worth it everyone .....:huh2:

By the way, im reading very mixed mesages about when to start 'full liquids' and how long i should be doing that. I would cut off my little finger right now for some milk or cream of mushroom Soup. Can anyone help?

Oh and good luck to everyone that is still getting banded!! I'll pray that God keeps you all.

MonkeyBand--

Hey...I feel your "pain" I went through the same thing as you are going through on Sunday--4 days post op.

You are in the "mourning stage" and it gets better believe it or not.

My post op plan says I can have thinned, strained, cream Soups. I know everyone's is different but those have saved my life.:)

I do get the low sodium because I know that is better for Fluid retention and I am a retainer!

Don't feel bad about the small "gains" I have read different threads that sometimes this happens after surgery...this is the healing stage so don't put all of your eggs in the scale basket.lol

Hang in there..tomorrow is another day:thumbup:

CyndiG--that's a neat calculator! It said 163 is a good weight for me...I would agree that would be great to get to!

Monkeyband--I'm sorry you feel sad. I'm sure that's normal and that it will get better as you lose. Just an FYI--gaining after surgery isn't abnormal as they give you so many fluids that you will eventually lose. If your sadness doesn't go away soon or increases, you should let your doctor know.

Oregonirish55--what's your date? I would like to add you to our list!

liquid Protein pre-op diet is working ok so far, but some of the stuff tastes chalky, any good brands that actually taste good out there?

I really like EAS. I got a giant bag of the chocolate flavor at Sam's. It pretty much meets my expectations as far as Protein drinks go. But, it doesn't taste bad at all to me. Or even smell too funky.

Is this bad? My 1 yo daughter is not making the transition to whole milk very good. The other day she wanted a drink of what Mommy was drinking so I let her taste my Protein Drink. WELL!! She thought that was YUM YUMMY!! She had HUGE grin on her face after ever drink, and would pull my at cup for more. So, since then we have added like a tablespoon to her milk in the mornings. The milk disappears! (By the way, this is whey Protein only, no muscle building or other crazy additives.)

I just found a great web site. I was wondering what a good weight would be for my goal. It help me be realistic about what normal weight should be. Hope it helps. Better Ideal Weight Body Calculations

Thanks for the link. Funny - their more realistic goal for me is almost the same as the one I set for myself.

I have two more days of Clear liquids. I am not sure I can handle two more days of broth. Even the idea of broth is making me gag.

I am mourning the lack of real food (staying home with all the commercials probably isn't helping), but right now I would be so happy with oatmeal or scrambled eggs.

Hi everyone! I had my surgery and am doing pretty well. It really only hurts when I get up and down and I just have to be careful walking. It is very strange not being able to eat. I was sitting here earlier thinking what will I have for dinner. I forgot it was only liquids! But, I'm also not hungry. Been sleeping a lot. My Mom doesn't want me to take the pain meds too much, but I want them to help me sleep and stay out of pain to help me these first few days. I am glad I didn't spend the night at the hospital, I think I slept a lot better at home! Good luck to everyone getting banded this week!

One of my pet peeves I guess...

But, there are two kinda of people out there.

Ones who take medicine to cure their aliments.

and

Ones who don't.

I don't understand the ones who don't. I am married to one of those "who don't" and it drives me coocoo!

He broke his ankles a long time ago, but of course they bother him frequently. He very rarely complains, but when he does, I ask if he has taken anything. Nope. I will even offer to go get it for him, thinking it is a lazy thing, and not wanting to get up and go get it. Nope. Sometimes he will take medicine... especially if I get it for him! LOL

His brother is the same way... horrible heartburn. Offer him prilosec. Nope!

And the funny part is, their Mother is a Nurse Practitioner. She does not understand it either! If you are in pain... take something!

I guess I don't understand why people feel the need to deny or limit their pain medication, when the Doctor prescribes it for a reason.

I understand if the pain does not warrant a lortab so you opt for Tylenol. But, just not taking anything? I guess there might be past drug addiction issues there. Hell, I have to be careful about narcotics because they constipate me!

What are some reasons that you would not take your pain meds, if you were in pain?

Yikes, I'm having my surgery NEXT WEEK, and I am kinda freaking out. Anyone else feel this nervous about the surgery? It's taken me 5 months to get to this point, and I wish I did not feel like running away>>I know in my heart this is the right thing to do. so why am I so whacked out? Any tips for the countdown? I've already lost over 40 pounds and can't wait till more is going bye bye! Liquid Protein pre-op diet is working ok so far, but some of the stuff tastes chalky, any good brands that actually taste good out there?

It would be great to hear from you...

what day are you having your surgery. mine is the 22nd. i am scared s#$@$#$$#. i am drinking Atkins. i add maple or rootbeer flavoring to the vanilla shakes. (like vanilla flavoring) the root beer makes it taste like the ice cream in a root beer float. the dietician said it was okay.

she also said i could have french onion Soup, without the onions. i really like it.

Hi Little Bit,

I am having my surgery Oct. 23rd. It's good to know that I am not the only one scared to death! This liquid Protein stuff has me making a face every time I try to swallow some. But the weird thing is that it's not that hard to do because you're so limited on the choices. I did try a Diet Dr. Pepper popsicle last night and it was horrible! Even smelled funny and I do like Dr. Pepper???

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
