Hi Josee,

Sorry I've been a while replying - I've eye problems at the moment.

I had a second operation because when I had my first fill, it was discovered that the tube that links the band and port had become detached, and the Fluid was leaking in to my chest cavity. So I had the port and tube replaced - no big deal and much easier than the first operation.

When I had the new port, they put in a 4.5ml fill. A few weeks later, I had another 1ml put in and that made all the difference. So now I have 5.5ml in a 10ml band. For me, that's perfect. In fact, I cancelled a fill that was arranged because I didn't need it.

As for your fill levels, all I can say is that a small amount of Fluid can make a big difference. I would talk to Kay and suggest another 1ml. It may take a while for the perfect fill level to be reached - it's not an exact science. Having said all of that, before my second operation I lost a lot of weight without the band's help, just due to Portion Control and exercise.

Given that you're putting weight on, I would suggest you visit your GP as it may be a sign of other issues. Are you retaining fluids? Are you grazing between meals?

It's great that you're coming to the support group meeting and I look forward to meeting you there - please come and introduce yourself. I just hope that you find what I have to say useful and not too boring!

Take care.

Josee,

You don't have a lapband and a bypass - it's one or the other. There has to be a reason for the situation. It's better to examine what that is and get it fixed.

The bypass is a once and for all operation. It isn't reversible as the lapband is. It's also a much bigger operation. Perhaps in the end that will be your solution. All I'm saying is that you should look to see why the band isn't working for you first.

I'd like to say thanks to the people on this forum who came to the Derby support group meeting and heard my presentation. I really enjoyed it and hope that you found that what I said rang bells for you.

Please keep in touch and good luck on your weight loss journeys.

I was sore for a few days after the operation. Getting out of bed was a chore, but then the soreness went and all was fine. Expect to feel a bit tired for a while. The aches and pains are soon forgotten.

Prof Larvin is a great man. You're in good hands there.

Thanks steve, jut spent 4 days in bed with this flu virus, god ive been so ill with it, hubby took me to docs last night, im on pencilin & a throat spray, i have manage to get on the setee today, im fighting this with what strength i have left,..

My assesment pre op is next tuesday then op following wednesday 21st Jan...

Due to the flu & a diet i have lost 9lbs in a week, do you think it will be ok to keep takin things like strepsils & cough medicine as they have sugar in them?,

Even Soup isnt on the diet & i wuld love Soup right now (who doesnt when they have flu) surely a sall tin of Tomato Soup would be ok?, it is liquid,& they say soup is the best thing to eat with colds/flu ?

I really do not fancy eating anything too hard until my throat is alot better

last 3-4 days ive virtually eaten nothing, due to having blisters back of my throat (have been reall run down)

ive just started to being able to drink more now, my GP seems to think im going to be ok for surgery still though..

So sorry to hear that you've been unwell. I've got away with it until now and I hope my luck holds!

You've got to eat. Soup sounds good to me in that you can manage it. Why not give Kay Cresswell at Derby a ring and ask her? I'll PM you with the number.

Hope you feel a lot better soon.

Thanks Ann, I told hubby i want to take pillows, my quilt, hot Water bottle & my squidly teddy & slippers for the car journey home....he said thats ok luv but where are you going to be sitting :tongue2:... i'd forgot about me..

Im feeling quite a bit better..hopefully by tuesday when i go for my pre op ass they will say i will be fit enough..

saw my GP last night & he seems to think it wont effect my surgery..coughing a little, but i have 10 more days ahead of me yet..

I really dont want them to cancell it, or im going to be waiting weeks/months for another surgery date?

Steve i thought about the Soup & remembered what kay told me last time, try & stick with the solid foods as when it comes to soup after surgery im going to be sick of it..

Im drinking lots of fluids..my pencilin finishes tomorrow, so im just taking Difflam & ibufophen & going out in the fresh air for little walks & trying to stay positive

Sorry your feeling so poorly Debbie - hope it passes soon and your fit and well for the pre-op (just looked back and its TODAY! GOOD LUCK!) I was banded by Prof. Larvin and Lisa Rickers does my fills - they are really lovely people, nothing too much trouble for them and so helpful. I had a 14ml band and have 4ml in at the moment - its going slowly as I have some other stuff going on and am very stressed at the moment; but it is working - very best of luck to you and just work with it. x.

Great your pre-op went so well. I had to go in the morning and my operation was about 3.30pm. The waiting on the ward is tough, so take an iPod/book etc. I think your husband will be shown the door soon after you get there. It might be worth checking what the visiting hours are on the ward.

We'll all be thinking of you when you go for your operation. Good luck with it, I'm sure it will go well for you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
