Who was banded at Derby City Hospital?

Recommended Posts

Thanks Steve, to be honest Im missing things like tea with milk in it at the moment, and white toast. I've waited so long for this and had such a terrible year, I really feel as though Im waiting for the next thing to go wrong all the time, although I can feel I've lost weight just on the pre-op diet; and I cant wait to be able to walk the dogs properly again.

Thanks so much for your support.

Katie Taylor | this is my daughters story if you would like a look.

Just thought you would like to know that the next two support group meetings are on October 29th and November 26th, starting at 7.00pm at Devonshire House, Derby Royal Infirmary. Good chance to ask questions of the team and meet others who have either had the band operation or are preparing for it.

Oooh Ann, you just made me feel so good that your op was performed by Mr Ahmed  You're the first person I've met who has known him. Sorry to hear about your flipped port, I hope it's sorted now.

Steve, Derby haven't started doing bypasses yet.

Dr Ahmed did my second operation. Very good guy, very calm and professional.

Didn't know that about bypass. Thought they had started them. Still, it represents an expansion in their services that will appeal to some people when it comes. I'm glad that I had the band and would do it again, even if the bypass had been offered. Certainly my general health has improved as I've lost the weight - blood pressure, sleep apneoa, aching joints. A huge reason to justify the weight loss surgery in itself.

I'd love to be able to come to one of the Support Group meeetings, Kay Cresswell encouraged me to when I was dickering in my decision over band or bypass. But unfortunately I live 40 miles away & although it's quite a doddle on the train I won't travel alone on them that late at night after a previous bad experience.

I was told if I opted for the bypass I would be referred to Leeds for my op, which is 50 miles north of me. Then I'm guessing there's the chance that Leeds would say my BMI isn't high enough for them to take me.

Such a shame Sheffield won't do my band, just for sheer convenience, it's less than 20 miles away. But my BMI is too low for them to accept me. Mind you, now after all I've read about Derby & the contact I've had with the team, I think I'd still go for Derby even if I had the choice of Sheffield put to me. I just wish it was a bit closer as it's too far for my family to visit me on the evening of the op & I'm hoping my sis will fetch me out the next day & I don't want to impose on her too much.

Hello Josee,

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry that you haven't had success - yet! Can you give us some more information about you and the band - have you had fills, your diet, exercise, why you think you haven't lost weight?

There are many people on this forum who have experiences that they can share with you and are happy to give advice. Try not to get downhearted, although that must be difficult. The band by itself is not the answer - it's a tool to help you make significant changes to your lifestyle that enable weight loss.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
