Nervous and Hopeful about First Fill

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I've been lurking since May and haven't ever posted. I'm set for a fill-in this Thursday and I'm hoping to get an "aggresive" fill. Lately, I've been hungry hungry hungry and I find myself able to eat ANYTHING, so it has been a real struggle to stay (kind of) on plan (not really). Needless to say between all the 4th of July barbeques I've not lost any more weight in the past two weeks.

I was just wondering, what is considered an "aggresive" fill? I have no idea what size lap band I have, I just know that I have nothing in it now. And how soon will I feel the restriction after the fill?

Thanks!

My first fill was 2 cc in a 10 cc band (didn't know my band size until then). I was scared it was too aggressive, but it was a good fill. I definitely felt the difference and it helped me lose 7 lbs in a month.

Isn't it strange that with a smaller stomach pouch you would be able to eat that much - I know what you mean - I am only 12 days post-op and I think I could eat pretty much all day if I just take little breaks in between - frustrating when you try to be good but are starving.

HI

Hang in there, it's easier than you think. The Dr. will determine the amount of fill you need based on a lot of factors. I have a 14cc band and my first fill was 2cc. What was wierd is that I didn't feel the restriction until about 2-3 weeks later. The fills after that were the same. I'm 11 months out and haven't had a fill for about 4 months. It took about 6 months to get to the sweet spot. But it was also a learning experience the whole way along, and still is.

I have had the band overfilled. The Water the Dr. had me drink after the fill took about 5 minutes to go down, it should go down right away. Fortunately, they wouldn't let me leave the office until Dr. took some of the Fluid back out. That was my last fill. I am losing again, and can tell that I'll probably need a fill in about another month or so.

Someone posted once about "our fickle band". That is the truth! Sometimes I fell full right away and sometimes not, on the same food.

So, you are now embarking on the next part of the journey, learning your new pouch and recognizing the band "talking" to you.

good luck!

Thanks - I have a friend who didn't lose any weight for 6 months even with fills - then she said one day it just started working - I hope it doesn't take that long for me - I am excited about losing faster than that - it is weird though - some meals I get full fast and some meals I don't - I am only 12 days post-op so just getting used to everything.

Hi there. There is definetly hope. I had 2ccs put in my 4cc band and I was almost at my sweet spot. But now 2.1 with 2 fills and I am sweet!

So I have been post-op since July 4th. I have none absolutely no restriction. Has any one had this?

I had restriction until a few weeks ago. The problem is that I have learned how to eat around the band (mainly by drinking Water with my meals). It's funny, I would never have learned how to cheat so well if I wasn't lurking on these boards. But at the same time, if the boards weren't here, I would have felt like an utter failure for feeling hungry and wanting to eat. Oh well. Hopefully, I will have restriction after my first fill

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
