July Butterflies Master Thread

Recommended Posts

Hey ladies, my name is April and I am new to the site and just found this thread. Hope it's ok to jump in. I was banded on July 14,2008. I live in Indiana and have had good results but with many ups and downs. Not much restriction yet but feel like it will come just when I need it the most. When the will power wears off. It is so great that you all support each other and are there to it each other going.

Welcome. We're glad to have you. Your weight loss is amazing. Is that all post-op or did you lose some before being banded? How has your journey been so far?

lovegrapes, couldn't he use the thicker fill solution? I've heard it works for minor leaks.

Although I really don't want another surgery, I want my band replaced if there is any leak no matter how small. At this point my insurance covers everything. I don't want to look back down the road to only find out that the defect got worse and it has to be replaced and now my insurance doesn't cover it fully.

Thanks for the info though!

Welcome all the newcomers!

Orea, congrats on 7 lbs!! I bet you were thrilled to see that scale go down.

Lovegrapes - sounds like you've got the right idea. No need to have defects that might affect your health.

Donna 113, thanks for the welcome. I lost 10 pounds pre-op. and the rest since the band. It road has been hard due to little restriction but I hope that I am on the right path. I have had three fills, the first two I felt no difference in the amount of food I could eat and the type of food I was able to eat, which was anything. After both of the first two fills I was missing most of the Fluid, so they think I might have a leak. I had the third fill and have had a few foods that don't go down well and a hand full of days that it seems I am not able to eat as much, I go back next Tues. to see if I am missing more fluid and they will make a decision about more surgery if that is the case. I have lost most of the weight by my own hard work, I do not cheat in my food intake, no more than 1,200 calories a day and only healthy foods and I work out 7 days a week in some form either walking, cardio, or sculpting. I just tell myself that when the band kicks in it will be when I need it the most.

I'm so glad to find a group of July band pts. it makes things so much more comfortable knowing we are about the same stage of the game.

Hi, I was banded on July 22 2008. I have been losing slow but steady. I just bought a treadmill and plan on using it 5 days a week. I hope that will help me lose a little faster and firm up. Denise

Welcome Denise. Slow and steady wins the race... or so they say. It's been very slow for me and not all that steady but the weight is on a decline and not an incline so I'm grateful for that.

May I make a suggestion? Your registered username "Ready2diet" might be playing pyschological games with you. I know it is with me. Remember, we got the lapband so we could LIVE, not DIEt. We have to make LIFEstyle changes for the rest of our LIVES. DIEts don't work, that's why we're here.

OK, I'm stepping off my soapbox now and sorry for lecture at your first meet and greet.

i hear you about the diet thing but i am finding that it still plays a role in how i eat i cant just decide i am going to eat chocolate (unless period time ;0) i have to chose how an what i am going to eat. which in essence i suppose could be considered a iet of sorts. but no more get skinny quick diets for me.

slow and steady wins the race as far as i am concerned

I just got back from my second fill. I only had them put in 1 more ccs for a total of 2. They would be much more aggressive if I would let them. My friend who was banded 2 weeks prior to me went today also. Her port is turning/flipping. According to their scales I have dropped 47 lbs.

The doctor told her we could be losing up to 5 lbs per week. I say he's on crack. I am NOT going to eat much less than what I am now. I am slowly taking it off and happy with my weight loss and the fact that I haven't been sick even once. I eat almost anything I want, just 1/2 (or less) of what I did prior to banding. I have gone down 3 sizes in my jeans and 2 sizes in my shirts. That is pretty good in my book. The only thing I need to change, is I need to get off my lazy (actually just REALLY tired) butt and haul it to the gym. :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
