Ketosis and... urine?

Recommended Posts

I'm at 6 days post-surgery, following the liquid diet (mostly Water, Protein drinks and the occasional popsicle). I've noticed that my urine has a strong, unpleasant smell (not sweet).

I assume that it's some form of ketosis that's making my breath smell bad (and mouth taste funny) - but could this also explain the strong smell in my urine?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Enjoy! You are now shrinking your fat cells...so the weightloss is genuine...not just Water.

I went thru this when on Atkins and again after being banded a few months. It's just temporary and will go away when you consume more carbohydrates.

You might want to check with your family doctor to make sure its not a UTI. but yes when your losing weight at a rapid pace your body smells and breath will change. Also since right now your on mostly liquids your body can also be flushing out more too. Long as you rule out a bladder infection and keep your Fluid intake good. Treat yourself to a nice new bodywash/spray/lotion set will help.

Also eating to much of one thing like garlic & certain meds can affect your body smells too. oh my gosh my son in high school went through a spell where he ate garlic on everything (powdered, crushed and fresh) and no matter how often he showerd/brushed his teeth he stunk. Just like garlic. Had to hide it from him and it took a week for him to get back to normal. lol

Thanks everyone! This makes me feel better. I'm not having other symptoms that might make me think that this is a UTI (I've had them before), so unless I develop any of those symptoms, I think that I'll relax and be happy :) BTW, I see my doc in 7 days, so I can make sure of things then. Thanks again!

Telecia, I had to laugh about your son and the garlic. I LOVE garlic and find that there's a thin line between enough garlic to enjoy the taste - and so much that I stink of it :) I miss the line sometimes and my husband is quick to let me know...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
