Nike+ is a sensor that tracks your running(speed, distance, etc). You put the snesor in your shoe and hook the other part to your ipod. If you don't have an ipod you can use a Nike+sport watch. After your runs you download the info to Nike+. Once you are set up you can join challenges. It is really a lot of fun and great motivation. Go to www.nikeplus.com to read all about it.

I'm familiar with the Nike+ system, but I'm interested in joining the challenge with you and whosyadaddy, but I can't locate the specific challenge you guys are doing. Would you mind emailing me the challenge. I will send you my email address in a pm.

Thanks again!

OK, I'm following you. I think I will see what I can do. I have never set up a challenge before. I may need to get Whosya to help me.

Leslie... I just saw your newest pictures! Wow, you & your girls look beautiful!

Ok, back from my run. I did 4k in 32 min... so getting a bit faster I think. At the half way point I thought I didn't have enough steam to finish the 5k, so turned back toward home. Then decided I could do more, so I kept going until I completed 4k.

For awhile I got lost in my thoughts, and wasn't thinking about running at all. I think that's what happens as you build strength etc... you have to think less about it and just enjoy the moment! I liked that.

Ok, here's a fun question... for those who run outside... what is the funniest or strangest comment you've received from bystanders?

I've already shared my experience of receiving my first "runner's nod" as I crossed paths with another runner. That was fun. Then the time I crested the really big hill and another runner heading down gave me a high 5. But my most encouraging so far was over the weekend...

I have been running a very similar path through my neighbourhood and as I ran past this one house on Sat, a woman was outside. She yelled out "Your really getting better at this running thing! Keep it up!" She must have seen me running by a number of times.

Then the next day she was out again and yelled to me "If I was young like you I'd start running too... keep it up and when you're in your 40's like me, you'll feel so much better!" - I thanked her and smiled the rest of the run... I'm 42! And I look 42, but I guess she just didn't expect a 40 something person to start a running program.

So that's my stories... how about the rest of you?

those are great comments kathy!!!

i've not had a "running" comment - but i have when walking my 2 male labs. one is 95lbs the other around 113. my retired neighbor chuckles while i walk past his place, telling me how do i manage such big dogs being so tiny. he can tell me that every day & i'm GOOD to go. at first i just took it that i'm vertically challenged being short ; but hubby said no - your half your size:wink:

leslie - kathy is right cute pics of you and daughter.., she needs a pup!!!

haven't run much....heading out tom, the challengers got me motivated today...LOL

I am so glad today is not a running day for me. We spent all night in the ER last night. We didn't get home until 5:45 am and I am wiped! My son woke up at 2:00 in the morning and couldn't hardly breathe or talk. He's got the Croup and a little bronchitis. He had to have 2 breathing treatments before we could leave. He's still not feeling good and I think we may be in for another rough night tonight.

Talk to ya'll later!

So sorry Georgia. Dalton had croup when he was little. We ended up in the ER too. Very scary. We will be praying for a quiet, restful night. So sorry he is sick.

Thanks Renewed. He seems to be doing a little better. We just put him down for the night and I'm hoping he is able to sleep better tonight. Poor little guy...he hasn't felt this bad in a long time. Thanks for the prayers. Good night everyone.

Glad he seems to be doing better. We have been a bit under the weather here today too. My 23 month old has a staph infection on his knee. It was a mosquito bite that got infected. It looks better tonight, but really hurts him. If fact I just got through putting him back to bed because he woke up crying.

I didn't run today. Last night i started hurting in my right side/abdomen. I am hurting where my appendix are. Yes, I still have them. I don't have any fever so I refuse to believe that it is my appendix. I'm thinking that since starting back on low carb I may be a wee bit constipated, so I took some Miralax and the night off. I plan on being well and good to go in the morning.

Everyone sleep well.

Goodnight.

Morning everyone! Kathy - good luck with your interview. I know you'll do great! Ya'll I have done something funky to my back. I think it was Zumba on Monday (all the ab twists and movements). I could barely walk yesterday when I got off work. DH gave me a good back rub last night and I'm somewhat better this morning. I'm so tired of setbacks! I'm beyond frustrated. So rather than go to the gym I went home and snacked. Why do I do this to myself? Okay - I'm done venting and whining. I almost lurked becuase I don't want to complain - but I'm ready to move forward and stay on track. I'm going to see how my back is and hit the gym tonight. Even if it is just the stationary bike - something is better than nothing. I don't feel like I'm ever going to be ready for my 5k in November - that would require me to run/walk...I'm just not ready and I want to be. So tired of being frustrated. Sorry guys - just having a bad day :-(

Leslie - sorry to hear about your back. What about swimming until it feels better? Does your gym have a sauna or whirlpool? Don't overdo because it will be worse in the long run.

Georgia - sorry your little boy is sick. I hate the ER! I hope he feels better.

Good luck Kathy!!

I'm taking two phys ed classes this semester and one of my instructors announced yesterday that we would be competing against each other at the end of the semester in a 5K! Awesome!! As far as I know, I'm the only one training for one. However, yesterday I got a rude awakening. I've been training on the treadmill (it's Texas and has been hot until just recently), but yesterday we ran outside. YIKES! It's very different. So, today I'm going to start training outside. I want to win!!!

Hope everyone has a good day!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
