Low Carb Banders Unite

Recommended Posts

Wow... Ok, now I think I remember why I could never stick with Low Carb in the past.... There's so many hidden carbs I would never think about. How do you do it?

I have a hard time with it myself. I have tried it before banding but was unable to keep up with it. I am hoping that now that bread and such may be a problem, I can get back into it. I am taking it one step at a time.

I haven't posted for quite a while either but I never stopped low-carb. I have followed it since Dec 29 which is when I began my pre-op diet. I would be lost without low-carb. I used to have a hard time sticking to it but I have had a much easier time in 2008. The band makes a huge difference in helping me stick to it.

I was stalling out for quite a while and I added L-Carnitine, C0-Q 10, and magnesium. I did start losing again. I don't know if it's the supplements or just coincidence. I also got a fill last Thur so I'm hoping that will give me a boast.

I've been under tremendous stress at work which I don't think helps. I went quite a while there where I quite literally did not have a moment to walk. Now, I'm at least starting to get back out there for 30-40 mins. I have to take a few trips in the last few weeks of Oct but I'm hoping to get to a gym starting in early Nov.

Hi everyone.. I am jumping on the low carb band wagon.. I feel like every time i look at a nutritional label it has at least 20 carbs.. What on earth can I eat ha ha.. I managed to stay about 40 carbs today, but would like to be a lot lower.. I do very well staying low to no carb for Breakfast and lunch, but I really need ideas for dinner.. can someone help me with dinner ideas?? I know this should be the easiest meal, but let me throw this deal breaker at you all.. I HATE COOKING ha ha.. Ok now that I got that off my chest I feel better... I think I am going to go pick up some shrimp at publix tomorrow.. That should last me a few days.. I just feel like I don't know what to do. The dietician said don't count anything, but I have not counted and just made sure I was not eating over a cup each meal and only 3 meals a day and 1 small snack and I have not lost a lb in a week. I think I actually gained 1 or two back .. so it made me sad :grouphug: I barely eat and people think I am starving myself, but really i am not hungry. I just can't figure it out.. I go for my first fill on nov 4th and I would like to loose a few lbs before then.. Wish me luck please... and Thank you.. best wishes to everyone

dinner ideas for someone that does not like to cook to another-

I buy the already cooked chickens from Walmart a lot. I like the lemon pepper one. The others are too salty. It takes me 4 days to finish one.

There is also bbq chicken in tub that I buy and rinse off most of the BBQ Sauce. Sometimes I make a meat loaf out of ground turkey and I can eat that for several days. I am burned out on salad.

I also eat a lot of Protein Bars and shakes. I hate cooking so much that popping open a can of Atkins drink is fine with me. lunch time I

eat turkey pastrami and low fat swiss cheese and roll it up.

Somewhere on this thread there were links to several low carb recipe sites.

I eat egg salad, tuna salad, string cheese, taco salad, lunch meat, veggies all but peas carrots or corn. If you go back and read through all the pages of this thread, there are a lot of low carb web sites posted, I do believe.

I am not good at much variation in my diet. I don't like to cook just for myself. If I am cooking for my boyfriend, I just eat whatever meat I am fixing and a few veggies. Last night one of the stores had frozen shrimp on sale. They were big shrimp. I cooked them in a little white wine and chopped up garlic. I made some rice for him which I didn't eat, and broccoli.

If you put low carb into google, I bet you would get a bunch of web sites with easy things to fix.

I am really committed now to get the carbs out of my diet. I did really good yesterday and lost 3 lbs. I really would like to lose 10 more lbs and that will never happen if I think I can cheat a little bit here and there.

It always leads to more carbs and I finally have that through my head.

I will check out that web site. thanks for posting it.

Hi everyone! My name is Heidi & I was banded 9-25-08. I've lost 21lbs so far & had my 1st fill last tuesday. I haven't lost too much in the past few weeks. I would like to start doing low carb too. Thought I'd hangout here for some tips. I've lost on low carb in the past.

Do you all start w/ no carbs, 20 carbs, & then go up a bit??? what works for you?? Have any of you done the curves low carb diet? I like that one because it's not as strict as others. Thanks everyone!

Hi Kiki,

As the queen of plateaus, I can tell you to keep doing the right thing and you WILL lose. Plateaus are just part of your body adjusting to the weight loss. You have done great so far: 49 pounds lost since your band was put in on May 22. As my dear doctor tells me when I lament how slow the weight loss is going: 1 or 2 pounds a week, average, is what is to be expected from the band. Anything more is a bonus and anything less is just the differences in our bodies and we have to stay with the doctor prescribed program. In my case, that is low carb, exercise and lots of Water. You can do this!

thanks Nancy. i will stick with my low carbing, i know i'm bound to see those scale numbers move downward again eventually. i know i need to step up the exercise too, my body isn't reacting the same way it did when i started my regimen.

on a LIGHTER side, today when i stepped on the scale, i lost .5lb, since sunday;that's something, and i'll take it!!

Hello all. I would love to join this thread. I have been banded since Oct. 11 oflast year. I am down 50 pounds but have been at this weight since around the beginning of this year. I have simply maintained, which is good, as I have always gained back what I lost by now.

I have committed to going low carb now to get the weight loss going again.

I have done well today, does everyone post their menu?

So far today:

B: coffee with SF Creamer

Atkins shake

L: Chef's salad

Snack: Atkins bar

For dinner I plan on eating a burger patty with melted cheese on it. I usually eat about 4 oz. and with my level of restriction, it takes a good amount of time to eat.

How about everyone else?

I'm in for the low carb living. I tried it once before I was banded. I think it was successful. Now I want to try it again with the likelihood of keeping the wt off imroved greatly. Today, I had two boiled eggs and three stripps of turkey bacon for breakfast, salad with about two tablespoons of tuna, and 1.5 tablespoons of ranch Salad Dressing. dinner was a salmon steak and about 8oz of milk.

I had to fight temptations all around but tomorrow is another day and I will win!

I want to see 1-- lbs on Christmas morning. If not on that morning, shortly there after. Good luck you guys. Let's keep each other encouraged and uplifted.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
