How Much Have You Lost So Far?

Recommended Posts

I thought it might be fun to start a thread to report on our weight losses so far. June is half over so we are about half banded. It would be exciting to see and motivating for those yet to be banded. Counting your pre op liquid diet, if you had one until now how much have you lost so far??

For me I started losing as I started researching bariatric surgery and lost 10 lbs by the time I went to my seminar, but from the time of my first consult appt. with my surgeon and now 9 days post op I lost 22 more. For a total of 32 lbs. but not sure if I should call it 32 or 22, either way it's good. And might as well count from my highest! LOL

Banded June 9th and have lost 11 pounds since then. I've decided to only weigh in weekly on Fridays; don't want to get obsessed. Right now I am still pretty swollen and hope some weight goes down when the swelling does.

This is wonderul, all this weight loss!.....but, I have a question. Did you guys have to do the liquid diet 2 weeks pre-op? I have been on strict liquids and haven't strayed once. I lost 18 lbs prior to surgery on June 9th, but haven't lost ANY since then. I definately feel the restriction too, and am only eating about 700 calories per day between my shakes, Protein, and milk. Comments?

I did not have to do a 2 week liquid diet. This first week I am full liquids, about 700 calories a day and they also want me to get in a minimum of 40 grams of Protein a day. I've been getting in about 60 grams by adding Protein powder or non-fat dry milk. Don't be concerned about not loosing any weight yet, everyones body is different. And I'm thinking since I was not on a strict diet prior, a lot of my weight loss is probably due to Water loss.

I did have a pre-op diet: 2 shakes, one sensible meal and one high-Protein snack. I lost 10 lbs doing that. Since surgery on 6/4 I have lost another 14 lbs for a total of 24.

Rxdspncr, did your surgeon do a fill during surgery? I'm wondering why you feel restriction. My surgeons don't do fills until at least 6 weeks after surgery to give the stomach/sutures time to heal. For the first 5-6 days after surgery I would say I could feel some soreness or discomfort when I swallowed which I attribute to the new sutures in my stomach, but it wasn't restriction and now I feel totally normal.

Great job everyone! The next weeks until we start getting our fills may be trying (bandster hell) for some of us dealing with the hunger. I just keep reminding myself that this time is not about weight loss, it's about healing. I'm trying my best to follow the guidelines my doc gave me for the post-op diet.

I was banded on 6/11 and I have lost 10 lbs so far! I know that most of it is Water retention, but the sheer joy of saying good-bye to the 300s is worth it!

ebinsc, no, he didn't do a fill during surgery. I think I probably don't know what I'm talking about :-) I think, the more I hear, it may be the gas that everyone is talking about that I only seemed to have the first 8 hours in the hospital. I thought that the gas was all gone, but maybe not, huh? I bet when I finally feel restriction, I won't know what hit me! :-)

I only had to follow a liquid diet 2 days pre op, then 5 days of liquids post op, then soft foods. I lost 10 lbs. the week before my sugery and 13 since then, and a total of 33 (10 on my own while researching surgery). I do have a prefill because the large band was too big and the smaller band too small. So he used the large with some prefill in it.

I started this process exactly one month back

- I lost 10 pounds before surgery during 2 week pre-ops.

- 5 days after surgery (June 2nd) I checked I had lost 4 more pounds. - - - For past few days I have noticed I have gained weight by 3 pounds.

Funny... Nothing changed in my consumption or life style :-(

(I hope after all this - this works)

I was on liquids for two weeks post op. Surgery was June 6th....Still on liquids...but soon to mushies! I can't wait! I'm really sick of soups!

I'm following everything to a T....Failing is not an option!

Meal ideas are welcomed! ;o)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
