Thanks everyone. Wife is in surgery right now. I brought my laptop to keep my mind busy. I just hope this does the trick for her. She has tried all sorts of diets including one in the late 80's where she did not eat for 6 months. After each diet she would gain more weight. I hope this works.

Ate least with diet she will be able to eat. Heck 6 months with out eating is crazy. Good Luck to both of you. It is a whole new chapter in both of your lives. I used to think my best meals were behind me, but resently I went with my mom to a dinner theater and had the best meal of my life. I think with this surgery you savor every bite of food. Good Luck again. Alison

When I had my surgery, my DH roomed in with me and every time I so much as winced, he was right there trying to help. Walked with me, helped me dress, and even helped change my tampon TMI I know. When I got home, he made my Protein shakes and broth and helped me up and down the stairs.

Best of luck to your wife with her surgery!!

OK, I thought I was doing good but your DH wins!:P

Thanks everyone for your positive comments.

Wife is doing good, they took out her galbladder also because the test showed she had galstones. The Doc said it looked pretty bad glad they got it out.

She has been sleeping alot today, only got up once. She has been nausous quite a bit. I was surprised that they did not have her up more but everyone said it would be ok. She is suppose to come home tomorrow.

She really did go 6 months without eating anything. It was about 1985, it was a popular diet at the time. Cant remember what it was called but a few years later it was said to have caused major problems. I think she drank some sort of shake in place of food or took some pill I cant remember. I am sure someone has heard of the diet but I cant think of what it was called.

OK, again, thanks for everything I will let you all know how she is in the morning.

It's good they got the gallbladder too then. I hope she feels better soon. If that gallbladder would have stayed she could have got pretty sick. I had gallbladder attacks when I was 15 most horrible pain I ever felt. And I was sooooo sick. After I had my gallbladder out it was wonderful.

lots of luck to you both

Dustydog,

They gave us a patch for nausea, did they give her anything for it? It really helped my daughter and I after the anesthesia. Good luck and health to her and you of course too, brandyII:smile:

My wife is scheduled for 7AM tomorrow morning. WE are both very nervous and anxious. We know this is a good thing for her but still a little scared.

Any suggestions on what a husband can do when my wife comes home? She is expected to stay one night in the hospital (sounds different than most I have read here) I want to do everything I can to make this the best experience it can be for her. We have been married 30 years and she has fought weight problems for 28 of them. I cant wait for her to feel good again and want to be more active.

U know Dusty i commend u for doing that... that's what a real man does... wow.... :P:tt1::party:...lol ok just make things a comfy for her as u can, and make sure u make her drink her fluids... she may not want to but she must sip, sip and walk walk and walk some more...

pnutsmom,

that really sucks, I mean don't most doctors put you on a diet prior to shrink the liver. Why would he take a chance like that and put you through that. I think that really sucks, sorry you had to go through that, but it's not your fault. My surgeon puts us on a 4 to 6 week medifast liquid Protein shake diet and it sucked but it's standard procedure. It amazes me the differences in all the preop stuff. Cheer up, you've got lots of buds here:thumbup:

pnutsmom: I am soooooo sorry you did not have your surgery. That is really a bummer. If you diet how will he know in three months if your liver is small enough to do the surgery? I'd hate to have the same thing happen again.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
