Pre surgery diet...can I do it?

Recommended Posts

How is this pre surgery diet? Is it hard to stay on before the band? I know it is important to loose that fat for the surgery. I am just wondering that if I don't have the willpower to stay on a diet now, how in the world am I going to do on a liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery.:confused2: Do they give you supplements to help curb your appetite?:confused2:

I didn't get anything. BUT, just think that you will have a much easier time in surgery if you do it. I ended up having a tiny bit of cheese before bed, just so I could sleep.< /p>

I was on a 10 day liquid diet which included 3 Protein Shakes a day which had to be under 6grams of carbs. I could have sugar free popcicles and oh boy, Jello and broth of course. I am not going to say it wasn't hard but I knew there was an end... that is what kept me going. The hardest part for me was the weekend - the smell of food that others in the house got to enjoy so I really had to keep my mind focused on the end goal of a smooth surgery... good luck and hang in there.

you can do it! what kind of pre op diet do you have? they all seam different! for me the first few days were the hardest...it is actually easy for me now. well kind of. but it is all worth it! believe me I want to go to Culvers and get a giant hamburger and fries with a Pepsi and some custard! but chicken and veggies will work too I guess. (I am not on a liquid diet...but low carb high Protein and small portions. and I mean small a 1/2 cup per meal total)

you can do it!!!!!

My advice... dont stress over the impending liquid diet.... As Nike says... Just do it!! It is better for you and better for the surgeons.... And really after the 2nd-3rd day it is a breeze....Make sure you take in a good amount of Protein it will curve your hunger... Here is what a day is like for me...You can put crystal light in your Water to help as well. You can even have another shake if you need to.... I do now and then.....

wake up 24 oz of Water before Breakfast

sugar free carnation instant Breakfast made with skim milk and 1/3 cup dry non fat milk

24 ounce of water to be drank until next shake

10 ounces of warm(not boiling it will ruin protein.. so hottest you can get out of tap) water and one scoop of 100% whey unflavored powder with a teaspoon and a half of better then bouillon chicken base

24 ounces of water to be drank before next shake

1 strawberry shake made with water and 1/3 cup of powdered milk and a teaspoon of cinnamon

24 ounces of water before next shake

Warm chocolate Protein Shake made with water and 1/3 cup of powdered milk

sip on water till bed

water intake 90+OUNCES

Protein intake about 90 grams

calorie intake about 715 calories

My feeling on the pre-op diet versus every other time I've tried to diet, was that it was doable because it was for a specific period of time, not just a feeling that I had to deprive myself for the rest of my life. It has an end date you can look forward to, and you can count down the days you have to keep doing it. Kind of a different place mentally for me, so I was able to stick with it and lose 19 lb pre-op. Besides being good for the surgery, it is a great kick-start to your life as a bandster and starts you on your way to losing weight after surgery.

I will be banded next Friday and I have to start a liquid diet Monday. I am a little aprehensive about it too but as long as you keep the end goal in mind, you (we) should do fine!!! Good luck!

If I can do it, anyone can do it!! Started my pre-op diet on Monday the 2nd and because they scheduled my Surgery so fast (Monday the 9th), the put me on Slim Fast 4 to 5 cans a day, slim fast granola bars for snack in between my delicious shakes (lol), crystal light and sugar free popicles......Yes thats it!!! I'm looking forward to stage 1 of my diet, so I can get a lil broth!!!

Good

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
