10:30 a.m. and starving H E L P

Recommended Posts

I need some help. It is 10:30 a.m. and I'm starving and my dr. said absolutely no snacking. I am allergice to the Protein Shake, so can't do that. For Breakfast I had 2 poached egg whites and 6 oz of yogurt. No I'm starving and it is another 1 1/2 hours before my lunch break. I'm drinking water....but I'm starting to get the shakes.....H E L P :cursing::Dancing_sad::ohmy:

Deb,

You're new and I can't tell how far out from surgery you are. Are you still on any type of liquid or mushy diet? If so, follow your doctor's instructions on types of foods to eat to the letter.

If not, I find that a Fiber One Bar, Curves granola bar, or a half cup of Fiber One Cereal keeps me full in the morning, since there is more bulk to it and it takes longer to digest. Given what you have been eating, I am not surprised you are hungry. Plus, unless the yogurt is low sugar, it is going to give you a quick sugar boost and then a big dip that will make you really hungry and give you the shakes.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, no snacking. Might as well tell me not to breathe. The idea of three meals of solid food every day is great in theory, if we had an hour to spend at each meal. Most of us don't, and that's why I count calories--to be sure I am eating enough to stop my hunger but not so much I can't continue to lose weight. If you aren't eating enough at a meal to stop your hunger, then you haven't finished the meal. If you haven't finished the meal and eat more, you're not snacking, you're still eating breakfast!

There are as many theories on how to lose and not be hungry as there are bandsters. You need to find what works for YOU. What isn't going to work is to feel like you are starving all the time. Change up the types of foods you are eating, and find what will keep you satisfied while allowing you to lose weight.

It sounds like your blood sugar is low. Try some gatorade, that will help with the "shakes". If you cannot have Protein Shakes why don't you try a slim fast. I like the taste better than a Protein Shake. May Carnation instant breakfast???? It will get you through this hard time at least.

Hey hun,

try and stick it out, i know its hard and your body is telling you, you want food. But you can get through it. Do you have any suger free squash that you could add to your Water to make it taste better? Keep drinking....are you pre or post band? Are you eating enough?

How about going for a walk, or having a nice long soak to take your mind off eating.

xx

I am 10 days post op. My surgery was 5/23/08. This is the first time I've been this hungry. I'm still on the pureed food plan.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Water JUST ISN'T CUTTING IT this time.

I'm 10.5 months out and I am hungry right now too - I had my breakfast (oatmeal) lunch is another 1:15 minute - the hunger isn't going to kill me (or you for that fact) - Add some crystal light to your Water - you can make it another hour without eating.

Have a small can of V8 that's veggies & liquids ..

I do not find that the band takes away all of my hunger - it helps a tad - but I still get hungry between meals at times. But I just push thru it - it's doable...

Thank you. V-8...I'll have to stock that in my fridge here at work. It also doesn't help that the girl in the next office is warming up her lunch and it smells soooooooooo good.

No it doesn't :cursing: - for me I find that avoidance works best - I really try my hardest to avoid temptation - my doc does allow Snacks - healthy one only - I can't tell you to go against your doctors order - but you really gotta find what works best for you to make this all work.

For me I save my snack calories from the morning and eat 2 at night -

I am still within my calorie budget for the day - but nights are my hardest - so I bend things to work for me..

Good Luck - You can do this !!!!

Don't worry, I know it's hard to hear when your hungry but hang in there. You may want to try making your own shakes. I use milk, fruit and vanilla yogurt and wow is it good. You can add powder slim fast as well and get some nutrients that way. The V8 idea is good also, especially if it's cold. Maybe get some popsicles to get you through or some soft mashed potatoes. I hope this helps!!!!!

So even though you would be considered in the smaller you have lost your weight fast. I weight just about the same as you and thought it would take more than a year to lose to 150.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
