Ellen -

Warm cyber hugs to you. Hang in there. Stress is one of my big eating triggers. I know it's easier said than done but I try to step back and be thankful for all I have.

Everyone's turkey day prep is making me envious. I am going out this year with mom and dad. It's really the best since the place we're going to is having a buffet so I can control what I eat better. And, no leftovers at home. I had my 3rd fill this week so I supposed to be on mushie foods.

I'll be thinking of all you. I'm thankful I've found you all!

Hi to all tonight (Tues). I have been cleaning and setting up all of my XMas stuff. Decorated the fireplace mantel. Made pie dough today. Have been very busy. Tomorrow is pies. For dinner on Thurs. I will be having Turkey, Mashed tatoes, gravy, dressing, scalloped corn, brocolli cheese rice casserole and waldorf salad, rolls. Tomorrow I will make pumpkin pie, apple pies and cherry pie. I LOVE IT ALL!!!. Tonight for dinner I had baked chicken, salad and baked vegetables. Well, guess what. I had my very first PB.:grouphug: DID not like that at all. I don't know if I ate too fast or too much. I did just have a fill last week so maybe it is kicking in now. Janet, I will be interested in hearing about your plastics visit. I sure want to have that but there is no way I will be able to afford it. Mostly I want a Tummy Tuck as I have had twins and have alot of loose skin which I hate more than anything. glad to hear everyone is doing well.

Beckyo:drool::grouphug:

Becky...Will you send me your Waldorf Salad recipe plz?

Need some wisdom and no finger pointing please. I am worried....I have had one stressful week....after weeks of daily docs and testing they uncovered Hypertension and pre diabetes. This immediately made me want to quit the 5 or so cigarettes I was having daily. This in turn upped my hunger and this today is Thanksgiving!!...I cooked for the family! My docs said I could eat but keep it low fat. Ha. ..does pumkin pie count as a veggie? Mashed potatoes with gravey? Oh boy I messed up. I know I have to call tomorrow I have 4 days to "shrink" my liver. Wonder if my body is up for some speed shrinking! wish me luck. Can't find anyone who said they cheated on Pre op. like this..here

So...

First, you can't beat yourself up. This is a hard journey, but the rewards are great. You have four days to stick with your pre-op program. You must do it. It will be worth it.

Good luck and hang in there. You are doing this for YOU.

Good morning everyone! Thanksgiving is over and I am so thankful. I thought of everyone yesterday. I was so nervous about this first big holiday being banded, but I was able to eat normally. It was great not having the old feelings of being over-stuffed and guilty about eating too much. I was thoughtful about what I ate, no pb'ing and eating very slowly and small amounts. And, several people complimented me on my progress. It felt so good.

How did everyone else do?

Well hello friends, (Sat evening). I thought I would be the first one on since thanksgiving but I see there have been a few on. PJ Txlady, Waldorf salad as follows, I use Fuji apples, peel and cut into chunks, cut up grapes, dice some celery, add some marshmallows, chopped black walnuts and then coat it all lightly with Miracle Whip. YUM YUM!! I hope everyone had a wonderful day. I know I sure did. Had dinner, went to my sisters for a while and then went to see the Festival of Trees. It was pretty. Friend, I got questions. I had a fill a week ago Tues. On Tues and Wed before Thanksgiving, I could barely get any food down. Finally on the holiday, I was able to get maybe 3/4 to cup food down at the most. Later on in the evening I tried to eat a piece of pie and got stuck! (ON PIE)!. This is the second fill where I have had restriction, and this one really kicked in. I can drink if not too fast but I have to eat very very very slow to get anything down. Is this the proper restriction or am I too tight. I don't know since I am not used to this. It is hard to eat Protein unless I eat a pencil eraser size bite and chew. It seems that alot of things are getting stuck. I love the restriction but I dont like the stuck feeling. I haven't had it that much at all until now. Today, I did eat a piece of Turkey with a little corn and brocolli. I have had some pie also but a very very small sliver. I just wondered if this is what they call real restriction and do I need to slow down even more. It takes me about 45 minutes or so to eat dinner now and I have to re warm it before I am finished. I'll say one thing, I sure am full. Tell me I'm not to tight! I don't know what to think.

Will someone explain to me what it feels like when you say you can't get anymore food down? I can eat as much as I want. I need to know what it feels like when its time to stop. I have read where some have said they could only get down 1/2 cup, how do they feel? My weight loss is very slow, maybe I don't know when to stop. Please help me !!

Hi PJ Taxldy- When you get very full, very easy thats what it feels like. You maybe haven't had enough restriction yet. I did not in the beginning either or so I thought. At about my third fill I started feeling the restriction and at the fourth fill I am really feeling it now. Plus, when you get to that point you have to go slow and chew alot or you will pb. I did really figure that one out until I started getting restriction. Hope this helps. Each new fill is a new learning experience.

Hi SO!

Sorry I missed your message on Thanksgiving. I have been busy with STUFF and have not even looked at the computer since last Tuesday! I had my labs drawn and visit with bariatric nurse at the hospital on Wed, followed by my last visit before the big day with the surgeon. She said to start my preop on Friday. I was glad to be able to have a "normal" TG with my family. I had a little of everything I wanted, and felt satisfied the rest of the day.

I think if you went back over your Thanksgiving "transgressions" and really added everything up, you probably did not do as badly as you felt like you did. I hope you have climbed back up on the wagon of pre-op and are sailing through. My first day on the pre-op was pretty bad - lethargic and a severe headache all day. I made the mistake of denying myself coffee - someone had told me caffeine was a no-no. Fri evening I re-read my doctor's instructions to find that she does not prohibit caffeine, but leaves it up the the patient. Believe me, this patient is not giving up her coffee! Sat morning I had my cup of coffee first thing! Within 30 min the headache was gone. I managed to space out my food better on Saturday, had no hunger to speak of, and felt a lot better. DH and I went to costco yesterday and I purchased a lot of the foods I will need for the full liquid stage after surgery. I figure I need it here now, cause I don't know if I'll feel much like shopping for a few days following surgery. Doc keeps me on broth type liquids for only a day after surgery - then on to the full liquid stage for a week or so.

You are going to be fine, Marg. It will be a tough week, but it's only a few days in your lifetime, and your life will be so much better in the coming months and years. Your hypertension and pre-diabetic situation are both conditions that are frequently gone from your life within a short time after this surgery. You have lots of friends and support right here on LBTalk. We are all pulling for each other on this journey.

and you are in my prayers...

and BTW - pumpkin pie is the healthiest pie you can eat. Only one crust - and pumpkin is a healthy vegetable that is naturally sweet and requires less sugar in pie-form than other fillings.:cursing:

When I got really hungry I ate a boiled egg. It is just Protein. You will do fine. Cigarettes hinder healing so it is good you quit them. Four days will help. Hang in there! It will be all worth it.

My last fill was the week before Thanksgiving. It was my 3rd fill. I now have 8.5 cc's in a 10 cc band. I have pb'd a few time since that fill, yet I can still eat ALOT. My next fill is Dec 30th. Since I can still eat alot, does it sound to you like I'm not at my Happy Zone yet? I have to take smaller bites and chew more since last fill, but can eat alot.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
