To stay or not to stay...

Recommended Posts

For those who are already banded, is it better to stay the night or go home the same day? And did you get to choose or was it completely the doctor's decision?

My doctor makes you stay a night and now I wouldn't of had it any other way. I was so sore and it was hard for me to get out of the bed. I know some people have it as a day surgery but I would spend the night if you can!!!! Good luck to you!!!

I just had my surgery yesterday, and the surgeon came in to see me before the surgery. He asked if I wanted to go home, or if wanted to spend the night, and was OK with my choice to go home. I would like to have stayed the night, but my husband drove me, and he really needed to be at work today.

I didn't have any problem going home within a few hours of the surgery. We even did drive throughs (no test-drives though) of several car dealership lots. We're trying to find a car for Thing 2 (17 year old daughter), and I thought we might as well look as long as we were in the neighborhood. All I had to do was sit in the car and look out the window at the vehicles, so it was not tiring. Once we started on the way home, I just tipped the seat back, and dozed away.

I had same day surgery, and i was happier to be in my own bed! I just took liquid tylenol and was fine. I had my surgery on a Wednesday, and went to the grocery store on Thursday just to get out to walk. By Friday, i felt GREAT!

my surgeon makes you stay overnight... In my opinion it is a great decision on her part....

They can give you better meds for the pain.. help you out of bed if you need that... I didnt. I was glad to be monitored to know I was doing A O K

I am getting ready to go home soon....I am not sure when I will be released but it will be in a few hours I think!

I had a choice. I decided that I wanted to go home. I just wanted to be in my own bed. But, I do think that pain management would have been better at the hospital. I didn't have such an easy time with the pain as most everyone else seemed to, and I consider myself to have a pretty high pain tollerance. My wisdom teeth extractions were a piece of cake and I never needed pain meds for them. But this was a completely different animal. You may want to reserve your right to choose untill you see how you are feeling post op. I filled out all the paperwork as if I were staying the night, and chose to go home. Please pardon my spelling.

I was required to stay for observation by my doctor due to another health problem I have. I actually was glad to stay because I was able to get better pain and nausea meds, and have a nurse monitor me when I was having a problem (I couldn't pee :rolleyes2:).

The bad part was the guy screaming in the next room. I'm glad I didn't have the same surgery as him!!

My surgery was at 7:30 am and I was on my home at 10:00 am. I didn't have any pain just a sight soreness in certain positions. Everybody's experience is different.

My surgeon didn't give me a choice...and I'm really glad that I stayed. I'm not overly attached to my bed...and I was really afraid of my dogs jumping on me. I was a fair amount of pain the first day and I'm glad that I had the pain pump.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
