It was about 4 nights before I was back to sleeping good. The 2 & 3 were the worst for me. The shoulder pain killed me. I was tender to move around for about a week or so. I had my surgery on a fFriday and went back to work on Monday. I have a desk job

Rest & take some time to heal, it will be much better soon

I got a phone call to my hotel, bit that is it. My port has flipped but fills are ok. It does stick out ?

How do they fix it ? are you awake for it ?

The port is just under the skin. I had a general anesthetic and was under for a very short time. I flew home the next day. Other than the incision healing there has been no further problems.;)

Hi everyone, this is my first post. So far I have had a consultation with Rosanne at Slimband. I had already met with a surgeon at Credit Valley but I'm leaning towards Slimband. I still haven't made up my mind 100%. Do you get to meet any of the medical team at Slimband before you make the committment? I feel like speaking to a doctor would put my mind at ease.

What was the hardest part to get use to?

Also, what are the boot camps I've heard about?

Has anyone on here had complications? What were they and how was it handled?

Thanks for all your help!

Hi: Just call them and have an appointment made to see Dr. Yau. Living in BC, I never made an appointment with Dr. Yau and saw him just before going in for the surgery. However, I think you are very wise to see him. What other surgery do we go through that we don't get to meet and discuss our surgery with the surgeon. I would suggest you write out your questions to ask

I was banded exactly one year ago at TLBC. I've lost 90 pounds. I'm healthier in every way than I was a year ago. I've got about 40 pounds to go and have no doubt that I will lose those pounds.

The biggest reason I made it through a tough year, that included the death of my beloved mother, was the support of one person at TLBC....Jill.

Her knowledge, kindness, willingness to meet me and talk to me whenever I needed her...her evening information sessions and boot camps...her nutrition advice and tips...her encouragement at the beginning when I thought I'd never 'get there' -- all meant the world to me. She made the whole experience 'human' and personal.

She's the person who made it possible to succeed after the band surgery. Getting the band is so much more than just having a half hour of expensive surgery. Like all of you, I had to go through emotional ups and downs as I navigated this new world of eating. And I can honestly say that I couldn't have done it without Jill.

I'm writing this because I heard that Jill has left TLBC. I don't know the circumstances but I do know it's been 'tense' in that office during my past several visits. And I've heard that other staff have left TLBC recently as well.

TLBC has lost an honest, decent, motivated and caring staff member; for me, she was the only person there who took a genuine interest in my progress after the surgery.

Thank you for this post. My heart sank when I read that Jill has left as she was a tremendous help to me on my start of a journey that is still going on. I have lost 77 lbs and continue at a slow pace, but it was Jill that telephoned me monthly to give me support and sent me literature on the boot camp so I could do it by correspondence. I have suspected for some time there is tension in the TLBC camp and I wonder about its future.

I'm not a TLBCer but I met Jill at the 2007 Bandster Bash and all I can say was she was very friendly, selfless and classy and knowledgable. My friend and I had left our money upstairs in our hotel room and Jill insisted on lending us both money so we could buy a glass of wine even though she didn't know us from Adam.

I wish her all the best and hope we see her around the bandster community and the lap band boards as a fellow bandster.

I was banded on November 20th at TLBC, I think that if you live in Ontario, TLBC could be a good choice. Dr. Yau was very good to me, he answered all of my questions before my surgery and spoke to me afterwards as I was leaving the clinic. I do think that the ladies (not the nurses they were fabulous) in the office tell you what you want to hear for your initial consult. I was told that there was a Fill Dr. in Edmonton....then I find out that there isnt't one (by a fellow bandster) I confront them and they say that they are training a Dr. for fills and that he should be ready to start doing fills when my surgery is done....well, after my surgery I was told that I need to come back to Toronto for my first fill because Nancy is great at it, I will recieve a lot of info that day and it would be easier for the NEW fill Dr. in Edmonton to find my port if there is saline in it. Needless to say, out of towners should consider Mississaugua, they seem to have more fill Dr's around.I think post-op care is important.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
