First Fill Today!

Recommended Posts

I wanted to post my experience for others to read. I know I was doing a lot of reading on LBT to know what to expect.

I was banded on 3/10/08, I had my first fill today and it was a walk in the park! It was done thru outpatient surgery at the hospital. I was given a local, then they accessed my port with a needle. I had to stand up with the needle in me and stood in front of the fluoroscopy arm, while he inflated the band with saline. Next was a few drinks of barium.

It was really cool to watch! You can feel difference right away when they tighten it. Clear Liquids today, 2 days full liquids, 1 week pureed, 1 week soft food. I even went shopping on the way home!

Glad to hear your fill went so smoothly. I know I had built myself up for something major and there was really nothing to it.

I hope they all go so smoothly

Glad to hear it.... I was wondering how they did it. My first fill is Monday 5/12. Kinda sad to hear that I might have to go back to liquids as Im really enjoying the mushie freedom.

Had my first fill yesterday--after being banded on 3/31. My doc put 4cc in me it was a lttle hard to find the port , alot of poking but it really wasn't that bad at all. I really didnt feel much restriction. I drank 2 glasses of Water in office and then at home only ate 4oz of chicken broth for dinner. Today and for next 2 days I will stick to full liquid and work myself back up. I have not felt full yet, hope everything is ok..........I stop myself at 4-5 oz at a time . Open for any suggestions/advise hope I am doing okay but stopping before I feel full. Thanks Connie

I had my first fill today as well. It was easy. My surgeon's office has a fluoro machine and I layed back the whole time. I feel a lot of restriction right now. It's taking me a while to get down a Protein Shake, but I think that's just the way I am. I've felt some restriction since surgery. The liquids are really gurgling, but everything is going down. I'm excited to have had a fill. I'm ready to start dropping the pounds!! :biggrin2:

I was banded on 03/11. I get my first fill tomorrow, which is actually into my 9th week. The doctor has been out for the past 2 weeks.

I've been losing slowly and I haven't had any problems with any foods. Well, I did eat a few spoons of rice one day & my tummy felt very heavy. Won't do that again!

I've nervous about the fill, but I'm also excited! I've been able to eat a bit more at one sitting that I was able to from the beginning, so I know that I'm ready!

Will post again tomorrow after the BIG EVENT!!!!

I felt fuller on the full liquids than I did on clears the first day. Today I start mushies and I am feeling satisfied. I had 2 soft poached mashed eggs for Breakfast today and I feel full, and they went down easy! See how you feel on the next stage, you might notice a difference.

I just had my first fill. They only put in 2cc.

They had a hard time finding where exactly my port was. The poking hurt quite a bit, but I survived. I'm to do 2 days of liquids & 2 days of pureed. No biggie. I'm to return in a month.

I haven't had any problems up until now & hope things continue that way.

Does anyone know how they determine how many cc's to use? Is is based on how you've been progressing thus far & if you've had any issues? Is 2cc's a lot or a little or average?

The nurse specialist told me that there is no rhyme or reason to how much each person needs. No scientific process involved. I also think the size of your band also has some determination of how much at a time they put in.

During the needle insertion, my doctor had me lift my legs slightly off of the table, because it helps contract the abdominal muscles and pops the port up, so its easier to access.

From what I've read on the LBT boards, the amounts really vary from person to person.

My doctor also said the more that you are seen in the office, the better people to so that they can be adjusted as much as they need.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
