Update!!

Great news! First Jessica called me back and told me that my machine was in fact defective. Turns out Midsouth looked up the serial number and mine was one of several with bad blowers. So at least I am not crazy. She told me that she was going to take the information I had and give it to Dr. K Schmitt and she would call me back by 4pm. Well it was 4:30 and we were getting ready to head to Snead for a ballgame and my cell rang. I couldnt hear her (I live in the boonies) and told her to call me back on my home phone. So I ran in the house and answered the phone and she said "Do you want the greatest news ever?!!" and I was like "DuH!!" She said that Dr. Schmitt released me and that she was going to walk up to Dr. Miles office and hand my release directly to Neaomi. I dont know if I will still get to keep the Tuesday surgery date, but at least all this mess is over! I am going to call Neaomi Monday and ask her if it was too late. I am so relieved to know that I was not crazy and that my machine was really broken!

Thank you all for all your support! I really looked forward to your support everyday!

That is great news! Hopefully they wouldn't have monkeyed with the schedule until Monday and you're still on. And where in the world do you live? I, who is not even from Alabama originally, know people from Snead and thereabouts, LOL.

Thanks for everything!

I live in Blount County close to Locust Fork. Snead is about 45 minutes from us, that was a long drive for a little league game, at least we won!! Where are you located?

Are yall going to the next support group meeting?

I live in Sylacauga, but my husband is originally from Altoona/Snead. My step-son and daughter-in-law went to school at Susan Moore. They're about your age.

I hope to be at the next meeting. I've been to the last two and really enjoyed them. I especially like to hear from the people who have been banded recently. Hopefully, next meeting, you'll be one of them!

YAY SHAWNA!! WHOO HOO!!!

I have been out of town since last Thursday but I have definitely had you in my thoughts. When updating myself on the posts tonight I was so disappointed that MidSouth was being so un-helpful. I CANNOT stand when someone tries to tell me I didn't do something that I KNOW I did!

Then, when I read further and found that they were wrong... well, I am just ecstatic for you!! I bet you were on cloud 9 for the rest of the day and weekend! I just love when things work out and we don't have to suffer through a weekend wondering what will be the outcome.

Good to be back in town, girls. Now, I just hope I don't kill myself trying to get everything in the house just like I like it AND get in some extra work before my surgery on Thursday.

BTW, just have to give myself kudos -- We went to TN for the weekend because it was our 16th wedding anniversary and a good friend was graduating with her teaching degree. Not even once did I cheat on my preop diet and everyone was just so complimentary, telling me how good I was being! I was pretty proud of myself and think I still continued to lose weight. So far I have been averaging a loss of a pound a day on my preop diet which is totally unheard of for me. Definitely an ego booster and I cannot WEIGHT to weigh in the morning!! :wink2:

Thanks so much Missy!! I am so glad you had a nice weekend!! Happy Anniversary!! 16 Years is such a feat these days! We are celebrating #10 in August!

Well GREAT NEWS everybody!! I just got a call from Neoami and my surgery is on for TOMORROW! I was worried that they didn't get the information from Dr. Schmitt in time. I went ahead and started the Clear liquids this morning just in case. Good thing! She is supposed to call me back with my preop appt time this afternoon. I am so happy and nervous and scared all at the same time!

Oh OT - This was a great weekend. DH and I have a tradition of betting on the Kentucky Derby every year. Usually I do not win (I am so not scientific - I pick by names). But I did hit an exacta and won $141!! WooHoo! Sad about the philly though. Just wanted to share!! I will post as soon as I learn anything!

That is GREAT NEWS! Now I can stop holding my breath when I see you've posted!!

Congrats on your Derby winnings. I usually make a big deal of Derby Day, but we both have a terrible case of the crud. I did watch and cried, which of course stopped my head up even more. I must get healthy before May 22nd!

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow and know that you'll finally get to breathe that sigh of relief!

CONGRADULATIONS SHAWNA!! It's about time you can rest about all of that. Good thing you went ahead with the liquids today. Pre op appt was nothing to me. It took a couple of hours but they only did labs and a ton of questions. Then I went and met with Dr. Miles to pay and ask any last minute questions.

I'll be praying for you throught the day tomorrow! Let us know how you're doing once you feel up to it!!

Im home from my preop appt. It was pretty easy. The girl did great taking my blood (I am always impressed with anyone that can get my blood on one stick). I went on to Dr. Miles office. My son's friend's mom works for Dr. Miles, so I talked to her nearly the whole visit, which put me at ease. Dr. Miles was great. I felt like a heel, cuz I had no questions, but I could not think of anything.

Oh and I was super excited cuz my copay was only $100 for the surgery!! I did not know what to expect there, so I used my Kentucky Derby winnings to pay for it - HOW AWESOME IS THAT!!

I got home around 3 and drank that AWFUL fleet stuff! I really thought I was going to throw up! I just laid down and let the feeling pass. Now I am just waiting...LOL!

The girl from Midsouth is on her way out with my new CPAP machine, how much you wanna bet me that - that thing stays in the bag tonight....LOL.

Well as soon as I am able I will update yall on how it was!

=)

Shawna, from what I understand, you won't be waiting long :biggrin2:. I keep forgetting to ask Karen if they even put the *&^#$! CPAP on her in recovery. I'm going to have to dust mine off. It went from under the bed to the bag a long time ago..........

Sweet dreams tonight and happy banding tomorrow!!

Yay Shawna! It all worked out -- I am so happy for you! I just finished giving my husband the last of the saga... even he was irritated with all the BS you had to go through! :)

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and hope you have a totally uneventful day!

I'm so excited for you Shawna!!! It was so cool meeting you and now being able to listen as you go through this process. I can now pick up and help you as I've been through the surgery.. thank God I didnt have all the issues with the CPAP run around.

I'm glad that preop went smooth! Yes the fleet is NASTY!! I mixed it with white grape peach juice and it was a little better but now I won't drink the rest of that juice because it reminds me of that taste lol.

THE BEST IS YET TO COME!!!! I pray that everything goes well and that God provides the doctors and staff with plenty rest tonight! Get you some good sleep in your bed.. on your side.. on your belly bc it might be a day or so before you can lol. IT'S WORTH IT!! I have only lost 16 pounds but I feel so much better about myself, my motivation, exercise etc. I can't wait until you are joining me on this journey!!

Update us when you can! We're praying for you!!

BTW, what time do you have to be there tomorrow?

SENDING BIG HUGS!!!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
