Salad and Heartburn

Recommended Posts

Well, I decided I was going to have my first salad today for lunch. It consisited of ver well diced up: lettuce, Tomato, parsley, a little green onion, and cucumber....

I used a very little amount of Organic Viniagrette.

With in just 10 minutes of starting to eat I had a terrible heartburn problem.

So much for eating any salad for a while.

Anyone else have this problem with salad?

Blessings,

Brenda

I haven't tried salad. I'm scared to. I had broccoli the other day, and I only ate the tops. I'm just starting to incorporate 'real' food back into my diet, but I'm still eating very wet, and mushy stuff.

I miss eating salad with my chicken.

I had a panera salad over the weekend (twice, couldn't finish it in one try), and didn't have any problems with it. And it was YUMMY! I missed my salads!

Hi Brenda,

I was banded 22-02-08 and I too had salad last night for the first time and it was yummy i have lost 8kg.Before I was banded I always had heart burn but i have not had it since banded hope it stays that way, maybe it was the onion that did it for you.

I had salad last night and again tonight for dinner. Ranch dressing last night and Italian tonight. My salad didn't have onion. I know my doctor said if I tried to each salad to be sure I cut it up to less than the size of a quarter. Something about it doesn't really get chewed up that well and can cling to the side of the pouch. Give it a couple days and try again. It may have just been you band acting up.

Hello I am new and I am scheduled for surgery May 2 2008 I am nervous any advise

The first thing I would do is find the support group for the May bandsters. Not that we aren't willing to help you here and we can, but it will help you to compare notes with people who are getting banded in the same month. On that same note, I also spent a lot of time in the January bandsters group so I could get an idea of what to expect before I had my surgery. I also spent a lot of time in the pre and post op surgery sections, again so I could just read the threads and learn what to expect.

My advice is just to read, read, read and read some more. If something isn't clear, ask questions. Before you ask a question you may want to see if the subject has already been addressed by doing a search of the forums. Odds are it probably already has. (The search box is in the upper right hand corner, you can also search individual sub forums).

Good luck, you will do fine!!!

Blessedtwice,

Salad is mostly Water and when chewed to a pulp goes down easier than a lot of foods. Maybe the vinegrette was too vinegary(is that a word?) or the raw onion gave you some discomfort. They will be harder to digest without other food and also you need to chew onions well.Happy Saint Patty's Day!!!

Try again vary the dressing and chew well.

Thank you all ...I do love salads and I did what babedo4 had suggested and had it again for dinner with 4 tiny bites of chicken. I also took out some of the onion, and used a light ranch instead. No problem at all...It must have been the green onion.....except that about two hours later I was hungry because I didn't really eat alot of Protein. So I had a little more protein and was fine.

Thank you all

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
