I've been following my liquid diet to a t... and we're talking clear broth, Tomato Soup, slimfast shakes, crystal light, tea. Maybe...just maybe 800 calories a day. What's going on!!! Don't worry about it. Eat and gain weight! (saying that lightly)

Your innards have just been tinkered with...that's gonna cause swelling...that causes the scale to move up.

What you are experiencing is normal.

You are not supposed to lose even 1 pound until after you have had adjustments, and several to get restriction. And you have read people losing weight even before then, right?

Don't worry!

Congrats on being banded and enjoy this phase of your life.

(oh, your body is a well developed machine. Once it senses you are trying to kill it...and that's what it thinks when calories are reduced or dieting takes place...it goes into a mode to protect itself....stores everything as energy aka fat cells. This is normal.)

come back to the board and post your weightloss next week!

I'm not a bandster yet but I've been on this board long enough to know what some of the veteran lapbandsters will say. First stop weighing yourself! I don't mean to sound mean, by any means...But this week, this first month is for healing purposes not weightloss! Your body has gone through a lot of trauma and it's trying to recover, let it do what it needs to do. You didn't gain weight over night and you won't loose it over night...Take your time, let your body heal and relearn how to eat...

lise,

dont worry about it. i know thats easier said than done, but really.

your body has gone through trauma (surgery) and doesnt know what is going on. it is more than likely retaining the Water you are consuming. just KEEP DRINKING.

also ... this phase is not for weight loss, its for healing. take care of your body, concentrate on getting all your liquids in and maybe dont even step on the scale for several days, it can really discourage you if its going in the wrong way.

take time to heal, weight loss will come once you are properly restricted.

Give yourself time to heal. The weight will come off. Congrats on your new journey. I was banded at the NWWLS on 2/12. The entire staff is very supportive.

I was the same way. Day 2 or 3 I stepped on the scale and I was up 7 lbs from the day before surgery and I freaked out. It went back to normal within a day or so.

I too gained about 5 lbs right after surgery - fortunately, my surgeon warned me it would happen - he said it's all the fluids they pumped into me while I was at the hospital....

I know just how you feel! I was gaining 1/2 lb each day for the first 6 days after surgery. Try to cut out high sodium Soups and drinks. I was told it was just Fluid retention and it would pass. And it did. I started noticing how much sodium was in the things I was taking in and once I cut back on them, it dropped almost overnight. I was having chicken broth 3 times a day, major sodium and I bet Tomato Soup is full of it too. My doctor told me to weigh myself daily, but I had to stop because I got so frustrated seeing the number go up and I knew I was taking in 600 calories a day.

Lise, I gained 8 pounds the day of my surgery. This was probably all due to fluids. 3 days later I had dropped back down the same weight I was on the day of surgery. I lost on average 1.5 lbs a day for the next 4 days until I hit the "mushie stage", now I've gained back 3 lbs in 2 days.

I'm not stressing it yet. As long as we keep working it will all work itself out.

Lise

Stay off the scale for 1 week - pick one day a week to weight yourself - do it the 1st thing in the morning - Your weight can vary too much from day to day - just follow your doctors eating orders (make sure low sodium) and the weight will come off.

Welcome to band land..

Hi Lise,

I too am i the same H%^$ as you are in. I had surgery on 2/25/08 and I have only dropped 1/2 lbs as of 3/3. I have a friend that has lost over 30 lbs in 2 months since her surgery so I have expected the same for my self and I think that is why I am so fustrated. I weigh 2x a week and tomorrow I will see if I have dropped any more. I have my fingers crossed. I lost 25 lbs in 2 months prior to surgery, how about you? Maybe that has left me at a plateau. Good luck to you

25 lbs in 2 months - that's amazing! well - i went to a seminar, had my consults and then was banded all within a week and a half so i really didn't have time to do a pre-op diet. it all happened so fast! i don't know if i'm retaining fluids or what...but my stomach is still all bloaty/gassy feeling. eek!

I wish i had your ability to not stress...i hate Fluid weight gains...so not fair. but - you have your good days and your bad ones. hopefully the good will outweigh the bad! what have you been eating in the mushie stage?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
