Eating "around" the band???

Recommended Posts

How do you do this!!! Even with no fill I cannot eat anything other that soft foods!

And soft food is exactly what you should be eating at this stage of the game. You are less than 2 weeks post op your stomach is still healing. In about 2 to 3 more week you will wonder if anything had been done to you. It will get better as you stomach heals. Just remember at this stage if you have to chew if you probably shouldn't eat it. Good Luck and be sure to follow your Dr's instructions completely and do not cheat as it could do more damage in the long run.

Eating around the band refers to people who have had fills and whose bands are at a good restriction, but who eat things that the band will not restrict, like ice cream, milk shakes, or any other high calorie food that will pass easily through. Once you have fills, you are not supposed to have any more liquids with calories, because they will not fill you up like solid foods will. That includes Protein shakes too, since they are liquid and will leave you hungry again in a couple hours.

As Tyanna said, this isn't something you need to worry about until you are on solids. Right now, you should just concentrate on staying with liquids so your stomach heals thoroughly.

2 ways I can eat around the band is a. taking too long to eat. Yesterday I had chinese chicken salad and in order to eat more I stayed at the table over an hour. That is bad. You are suppose to quit in 30 min. b. drinking when I eat. In order to be able to eat more, I sometimes will drink with my meal to flush it down. Both of these habits are bad and have stalled my weight loss.

I think that might be my weakness, I am thirsty ALL the time. I can;t imagine eating without a drink, I feel like I need to wash it down. I am really stuggling with it now.

A friend of mine lost 4.5 lbs in one week just by giving up drinking with her meals. That is my ultimate goal. I'm just so use to doing it now it will be tough. Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
