I think another thing we respond to is the myth of "the jolly fat person". Obese people, for the most part, get that way because they're desperately unhappy with their lives, and they've learned that food makes them feel better.

For a while, at least...

I weigh myself at my office... Which is reasonable, since the scales at work are verified and certified every year or so.

The dead people scale? eeewww....

Oh my gosh I almost went the the ER Thursday... I had my fill that day and was only able to get about 8 oz of Water and about 5 bites of Jello in for the entire day. When I went to bed that night.. I had to burp every 3-4 breaths.. air wasn't even going down! I was scared for the morning to come as that is when i tend to be the tightest. I kept thinking I should go to the ER and see if they can take some out. But had no idea if doctors were familiar with what to do. Of course my Dr's office was closed for the holiday and I didn't want to bother anyone in the middle of the night... ( I am great at rationalizing!) So I just kept trying to get some sleep but was up most of the night.. fell asleep around 3am. The next morning I was able to get some Water down, and then later in the morning tried some milk and that went down ok.

But I still can hardly eat anything, I'm definitely in that 2oz zone. So we will see if this loosens up any over the next few weeks. My head still wants to eat more then 2oz... but my stomach is screaming out.. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Fenton I would love to beat you to the 100 pound loss, but I don't see that happening. I think coming in 2nd place would be good too. I actually started dieting last summer. I think 90 pounds in a year is pretty good.

Jencys, Of the 2oz of food you can get in, are you able to eat chicken or meat -- you know, hard Proteins? If you can only do mushy food, my doc would tell you that you're a little too tight. Now that we're past the long weekend, maybe you should call your doc to discuss if maybe a slight unfill is in order.

It's scary when you finally get that real restriction and nothing much goes down. For me, taking out just .2cc made a big difference and gave me the room for fluctuations that happen without the fear of being too tight to swallow anything.

When I was at the gym today I was watching Home Improvement( with Tim Allen )to take my mind off my pain , any way Jill made a chocolate cake and that was all I could think about . I made up my mind that when I went shopping today I was going to get a cake . Well I made my way over to the bakery and trying to decide what I could get with out feeling too guilty about it . Then I spotted it ! A free sample of cake . It wasn't chocolate and it was only a taste but it hit the spot after that my cake craving was gone. I finally found a way to have my cake and eat it too. What a great day !

jencys---wow --- that IS something! Do you mind giving us the stats on your fills and band? How big a band---how many fills did that take---how much saline? I'm having my 2nd fill Thurs and I don't think I will need a lot. I'm a bit worried it will be too much (but I know I need some). It's going to be done with x-ray so I do hope that will prevent them from giving me too little or too much.

I guess I'm officially a bandster now......just had my first PB experience.....it was horrific and I feel like shit right now.

I came home from work and grabbed a handful of dried fruit....eating mindlessly and not paying attention to chewing.....

first....PAIN....OMG...the flaming golf ball I've heard about....then the slime.....lovely, a rabid dog......then rejecting the poorly chewed food......UGH.......I'm just so glad I was home.

I'm still hoarking in up.....such a delicate flower.

Paying a pennance now.....liquids for a day.

OUCH.....throwing away the rest of the dried fruit.....no more for me.

Have I turned into a snob or something ? Everywhere I go I now notice all the over weight people and think " Oh my god that person needs lap band." I feel I should tell them about the lap band and how it's helping me .I wasn't like that before and I don't like it . I guess it's just because I now know how unhealthly and unhappy I was before I started to lose weight and now I want to help everyone else . I feel like one of "those people " that knock at you door and want to convert you to their religion and won't go away until you close the door in their face .

Cathy you're not alone!!! I do the same thing. I feel compelled to start up a conversation with someone and eventually get to the lapband discussion when their overweight....I am finding that a surprising number of overweight people don't think it should be a choice. A lot of them want to know what you can't eat!!! When I mention the soda thing many are turned off.

As for chocolate....well...do I dare say I am NOT a chocolate fan...sorry. I do love ice cream though..and have resorted to the skinny cow sandwiches and they have relieved my craving. I also don't like chips or the like so that's a good thing.

As for the weight loss....only a few have mentioned. I saw someone the other day I hadn't seen in a while and they said "whats different with you?" I too get "oh my goodness you don't need to lose a 100 lbs...."... oh yes I do!!

Anyway...I have my 5th fill on Wednesday and am still looking for the perfect spot. I have better control and make better choices because I am less hungry but its still slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

I am unmotivated to exercise though....need to get my "butt" going...

:biggrin::)

I don't know whether to congratulate you or just say "I feel your pain"!!! It is the worst...God's way of say..whoah...slow down there. Its when it happens and you're not near a bathroom...OMG. I went to the mall and had rice and chicken and it got stuck...had to literally run to the bathroom to PB...thank goodness it doesn't happen often...You're there!!! and yes dried fruit....did you really think that was ok??? (hahahahaha)

:)

I've been wanting to use this smiley for a long time....

Rugman - my 2nd fill is set for Thursday also.and I need it. I went to dinner tongiht and was able to eat 6 oz of lobster, some lobster artichoke dip with totilla chips and a baked potatoe.... and still had not feeling of restriction. After counting my calories i was over my daily allotment by about 400, so that was not too bad. but I have not eaten that much at one time since a few weeks before being banded.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
