Between the pre-op liquids and now nothing but liquids (banded 2/13) I don't seem to have to go..normal?

marieze

I was almost two weeks post op before I had my first #2. I didn't feel constipated up to this point and when I did have to go I didn't have any trouble.

Ugh, I didn't go until 3 weeks after my surgery. After trying everything, I resorted to the Milk of Magnesia and that got things moving (literally) in about 2 hours. Even now, I have to use it periodically.

I had a big problem.. I have since had to start adding fiber to my diet... If i had to do it all over again i would have started with fiber day one (post op) I now use fiber one and fiber source. You can add fiber source to water or Crystal light. I NEVER had a problem before but now it a MUST in my diet...

I started using benefiber about a month before surgery but even then it was a week before going "normal"

Anesthesia SLOWS everything and that includes the GI system. Walking a lot and drinking a lot helps to get things moving in the immediate post-op period. Once you can tolerate solids, 10 raw almonds a day provide natural fiber.

I had a big problem too! I did end up being able to go about 5 days post op, but it was painful and not easy, lol! I started taking milk of magnesium at the first sign of trouble and it did help, but I had never had bathroom issues like that before and I hope I never do again!

About 2 days, but it smelled like it had been in there 100 years! Blech.

You just just just had surgery - how did it go?

3 days with Milk of Magnesia.

for all your responses. I'm not constipated but just feel sometimes that I need to go....nothing but gas...but will pickup some milk of magnesia today just to be sure I don't get backed up. It's just that my incisions still hurt and if I try to push at all feel like I will rip them open.....this too shall pass!
