Dr. Aaron Hoffman - Lap Band done in Buffalo, NY (Dr. Hoffman)

Had my LAP BAND done on 11-26-2007 in Buffalo, NY at Buffalo General Hospital by Dr. Aaron Hoffman. I've have had no problems what-so-ever and the support from Dr. Hoffman has been FANTASTIC. He is the BEST doctor ever! I would recommend anybody from the Buffalo, Rochester, NY area to have Dr. Hoffman perform the BAND! GREAT DOC!

Hi, Everyone

I'm new to the group. I will be at the seminar tonite and hope to meet Daniellabee and any others who will be attending. I have many questions, but I'll hold off until after tonite. I sent my application in back in June, so I'm excited to finally be going to the seminar!

Hi everyone, I get a daily email from a site called Hungry Girl. They have excellent information on nutrition such as which is the best yogurt to buy and also about eating out. Last week they gave the best choices at Starbucks and today it was on Panera Bread. If you are interested in subscribing go to Hungry-girl.com:thumbup:

thanks for the website & bloom the "juicery" is at the nottingham entrance. although it isnt called the juicery anymore but you will see the stand there. although you cant drive into the park at that entrance

Welcome to the new members who attended the seminar tonight! You are on your way.

Bloom, this is how I found the meeting point of where we walk. I go to the Colvin entrance of Delaware Park and drive until you can't drive anymore. When you see the former juicery look for a parking space. I don't think I will be walking very fast on Saturday so don't worry.

Hi all.... I was just reading another site that stated that with the gastric bypass surgery, they only absorb approx 25 % of protein that is in any particular food. For example a 4 oz hamburger patty has approx 28 grams of protein and they would absorb only 7 grams into their system. Does the same thing happen to the bandsters ?

Also, does Hoffman or Posner tell you how much protein we should have in a day including the shakes ?? post-op and forever ..

Linda, thanks for the offer of the shake powder. I really just want to taste the different kinds. I wish they had a sample package with different flavors.. I'd hate to spend $40. on a container and find out that I can't get it down.

thanks

shar

Shar, bandsters don't have any malaborstion (spelling?) problems. That is what is so nice. The post op diet states we should have 48-64 ozs total fluid and 40-60 gms protein. That is only 2 shakes as my powder is 18 gms and milk is 8gms. I have more as I put that extra scoop in my coffee. I still feel so bloated and like I couldn't drink an another thing!

thanks Linda. So if we eat any protein products, we gain that protein at face value and not a percentage like the By-Pass ? If so, then why would anyone pick the By-Pass over the Lap-Band ? Am I missing something ?

You sound like you are doing great !! And you still are not hungry ? When you put the powder in your coffee, do you put in a full scoop ? Is the protein measured by scoops used ?

one reason someone may choose gastric bypass is the weight loss is quicker. now i chose the lap band because of the potential complications and because the weight loss is slower- whowants hanging skin

:tongue_smilie:

I think you are right. It seems that there is more talk about further surgery because of hanging skin. I'm sure they have their reasons. I think that at the time that some of those who had the other surgery, the Lap Band was not approved thru insurance. I remember that when I was working, it appeared that these were denied because as exp/inv. In fact, when I first started the process, I was under the impression that it was still denied.

I am glad that I waited and Nov 11th is the day. Its really coming fast. I went out today and got some soup and was looking at the protein shakes that they have here in Canada. I saw one today that was $ 34.00 and each serving was 25 grams of protein. But I think that I have to check what the serving size was. I was also looking for one of those "bullet" mixers instead of having my blender out on my counter all the time.

Yes my email, roadrunner account is temporary off. GRRR. I put a whole scoop of protein powder in my coffee. You must let liquids cool a bit before adding the protein.

I am having a pity party, feel sorry for myself day. Did others go through that? Real weepy. I walked this morning and was fine. This is 5 days post op. Today I am wondering what on earth I did to myself! But still not hungy.

Shar---I bought a "fake" bullet mixer at Big Lots. It was $22, I think. As opposed to $50-60 for the actually Magic Bullet. It works okay, but the more liquid you can put in, it makes pureeing a bit better.

And Linda---I had the WORST "feel sorry for me" day. I don't know if it was my body adjusting and wacking out my hormones or what but good Lord was it a bad day. My best friend went for her pre-wedding photos that day, and I was HYSTERICAL that she had to go without me, and that the matron (I was the maid) of honor got to go. Something so dumb and had I been at work I wouldn't have been able to go anyway---I was uber sensitive. It passed, though. I woke up totally fine the next day. Interesting phenomena!

Thanks Bloom... I will be in Bflo tomorrow and stop in to see if they still have them.

Linda, Maybe you just need to get out... If you want to, maybe we can catch an afternoon or early evening show and whoever else wants to come are welcome. You know, its funny.. the first thing I always think of for anything social is getting something to eat !! That needs to stop.. Maybe not entirely but for the most part. Let me know.

i bought my protein powder from vitamin world- a huge container was 17.99 that was the cheapest i found. i think it was the same price at bj's or they may not have had it. i still use protein shakes once in a while, i know im wierd i like them. i found another recipe for protein shakes.

1 cup water

4 ice cubes

i cup fat free plain yogurt (i use the vanilla flavor)

1 scoop protein powder

blend

it wasnt too bad

another thing i have been doing is putting salsa over my cottage cheese- it makes it so yummy

Shar, you are right and I thought that might be a part of the problem. We run a ministry and don't really have to many days off and weekends are our busy time but today we did go for a ride and see the leaves. It was nice but I cannot believe how exhausted I am. I want something to eat so bad and it is not because I am hungry. I am just programmed that way. I going to sit down to dinner with my husband and at least pretend there is some semblence of normalcy.

We need to get some girls together to see "The Women". Sounds like a good chick flick.
