Help, Pain left side under rib??
Armywife, I too get that pain. After surgery I had it for weeks. I am in a local support group and am one of the very few with that pain. It is normal. Sometimes when I eat a little to much I get it. If it is not bothersome ride it out and it will go away. If it is constant I would get it checked out. I am sure you have learned everyone experiences are different. I never had the shoulder pain after surgery but all my support group friends did. Looks like you are doing very well and losing. congratulations.

Less Than 24 Hours Unitl My Surgery
I too am having surgery tomorrow. I had a rough couple of weeks, emotion wise, but all of a sudden Monday after my final weigh in I got very calm. I was on phase 1 of South Beach all week to shrink my liver and today at 11:30 I had to take Fleet Phosa Soda and then clear liquids the rest of the day. All of sudden while at the nail salon (to get my polish off my acrylic nails) it hit me. I will never be able to eat a BIG meal again. My fellow bandsters keep telling me I will be able to eat anything in the future, just smaller portions. Still, its a big step. I hear you all! I have to be at the hospital at 5:15am

Hi, I'm new and really happy to be.
Hi do you know there is a thread for Christian bandsters? There is pretty much a thread for any group on this site.:tt2: I am a diabetic and will have surgery October 13th. I hope I can say I am off my medicine also. I have been off insulin once I started the program and now am just on Januvia. I also have sleep Apnea and depression. I would be happy to be off the CPAP machine as well as Januvia. Praise God for this surgery and the brothers and sisters in Christ we make through it.

My band date is Oct 14
TXNurse, my surgery is October 13th and I too am nervous, not so much about surgery but the pain after. I am a wimp.:tt2: I totally understand about the not telling people. I too am afraid I will be the one who fails. I have started telling some people because failure is not an option. On vacation a month ago everytime I looked at a tshirt my husband told me to buy a smaller size. I was successful on my weightloss to get insurance approval, and people started to comment on my weight loss AND ask me how I did it. That is what I am afraid of. I am thinking of just saying I had surgery to cure my diabetes and a wonderful after effect was the weight loss. I think as we get more comfortable with our life style change we may be more comfortable telling people. We have a wonderful support group in Buffalo, monthly support meetings in the hospital and we started our own thread on LBT. Tomorrow I go in for my final weigh in and will stop and see someone who is having surgery tomorrow. I never met her except on line. Plus the doctor started a walking group in a local park at 8am on Saturday mornings. Sometimes there are only two of us but it still is nice to talk to someone while walking. I stay overnight so I will be getting my barium swallow when you are going into surgery. I will say a prayer for you. BTW one woman I walk with is a nurse and she told her staff she had her gall bladder out:tongue2:

38 Hours to go!!!!!!!!!
Brandie, good luck. I understand. I have 10 days to go and I am not sleeping and eating more than I should. My feelings are all over the map. But I look forward to getting rid of my diabetes and maybe sleep apnea. I look forward to being healthy. Monday I start South Beach Phase1 to shrink my liver and then the surgery is October 13th.

Anyone approved by insurance with BMI less than 40?
Obviously you have recieved enough answers but I was approved with a BMI of 35 but I have diabetes, sleep apnea, GERD and High bp. They warned me not to lose an ounce though cause I was at the lowest you could be. I will be banded October 13th.

Hey from TX
Hanes, oops I thought your surgery was on the 13th too. I will give you an update on how mine went.

Hey from TX
Hanes66 I started seeing a food therapist and went yesterday when I was an absolute mess. I had to go off hormones before surgery and it is wreaking havoc with my emotions! I work at home and didn't have time for lunch before the appointment etc etc etc. She said the "last supper syndrome" is normal and everybody does it. We talked more abut the future and taking time for myself and discussing my recovery time with my DH because the office is 50' from my bed. I stopped for an excessive amount of ice cream after my appointment and last night unintentionally gave myself a thourough cleansing from both ends. YUK. I think that was a wake up call and I am sick and tired of being sick and tired! I am still not sleeping but going to try and do better with the eating. I will be thinking of you on the 13th (and the 12th as we do our prep and bowel cleansing)

Hey from TX
hanes66 I am getting banded on the 13th and my emotions are all over the place! I am having second thoughts but am doing it to get healthier and can't disappoint my family who is counting on me. The way I have been eating this past few weeks - the last supper syndrome, I realize I need it-bad! Good luck

ideas for liquid diet
clv811 my surgery is also the 13th. We only have to be on South Beach Phase 1 for the week before surgery. I can't believe how fast your journey is. When I finally have surgery it will 7 months and 1 day since I put in my application. Do you think you had enought time to digest everything? I complained about the wait but realize now it has been good. When we first get weighed we have to go on South Beach and lose 5% of our body weight. I was very successful and almost lost too much and would not qualify! I will be thinking of you on the 13th!

Looking for a buddy in the Buffalo NY area
Hi Jen, I see you went to the other site. Read past posts and you will find a lot of good information and people struggling with the same issues as you. You are suppossed to RSVP for the support meeting but I know people don't. I forgot last month. They are on the third Wednesday of the month at 6pm and are held on the first floor. There is a door to the left of the coffee vendor that says do not enter and you enter anyway. The number to call is 859-1168. They last between 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Was any of the 20 pounds you lost pre surgery? If not you are really doing great. I am down 20 pounds since first weigh in and I suspect I will lose some on Phase 1 the week prior to surgery. Do you have any comorbiditys? I am looking forward to "curing" my diabetes and perhaps getting rid of my CPAP machine. I have done a lot of research and read countless books. I have been on hold for a few weeks as I am extremely busy with work (I run a non profit and live where I work so I am lucky that I can work all day and night ) but as soon as it is over, Sept 23rd, I am going back to reading up on the procedure. Being afraid of compliance I am also seeing a therapist/nutritionist. She asked if I was nervous about losing weight and my new body image. I didn't think I was but from what I read a lot of people look in a mirror and still see an obese person. I know when I shop or look at catalogs I still lean towards items that are blousy or full rather than fitted. Hope to meet you at a support meeting or in the park walking.

Looking for a buddy in the Buffalo NY area
Hey no excuses. We still walk. This is Buffalo! I hope we walk as long as possible. I don't think the group has gone through a winter yet. I know I will be there this Saturday at 8am. It goes so fast when there is someone walking with you. We talk lapband the whole time. Last week there were four of us. Consider joining us. I will be at the hospital 3 Mondays in a row for pre op, weigh in, and surgery. Preop work is September 29th. Keep up the good work. I hope I lose 20 pounds in the first 9 weeks! Right now I think I will be afraid to eat anything but I guess if I get hungry enough I will. Any tips for a soon to be bander would be apprecited. Right now I am at the age where I have to stop my hormones before surgery. Not looking forward to the side effects! There is a support meeting next Wednesay at 6pm that I plan to go to also. Are you going? It would be great to see you there.

banded 8/27/08
Are you happy with going home the same day? In Buffalo we stay overnight and the next day the doctor does a barium swallow to check the position of the band and then you go home. I understand you don't get a lot of rest in the hospital but I think I like the safety of being there. I will be banded October 13th.

Looking for a buddy in the Buffalo NY area
Hi Jen, I would be happy to correspond. But I also want to let you know of a site here with all patients of the CWL clinic at Buffalo General. Do a search for Lap band done in Buffalo, NY (Dr. Hoffman). The first question I have is how are you doing since surgery. I am still waiting. It is October 13th. But I have been very proactive doing research, reading books etc. I am starting to get nervous. Do you go to the support meetings. I have been to the last two. the next one is September 17th at 6pm. Another thing is that a group of us walk on Saturday mornings at 8am. Dr. Hoffman started the group. Next, do you know who your new doctor is yet? Welcome to 20 questions. I am anxious to hear your progress.

Dr. in Buffalo NY?
Hi Jill, Have you done anything about the surgery yet? Dr. Forbes is leaving the practice and moving to NC. So Posner and Hoffman who are excellent and have wonderful stats are becoming overwhelmed with new patients. Even if you are still on the fence I would consider looking into filling an application. It is a lengthy procedure involving Psych evaluation and diet before you are accepted so you have time to back out. My surgery is October 13th. I do not need to loose a lot of weight (maybe 60 lbs) but I am doing it to be healthier and "cure" my diabetes, stomach problems, high BP, etc. Besides being down to only two doctors the band is really becoming popular and is much safer than Gastric Bypass Surgery. If you put in an application you will be invited to a seminar where they explain everything about both surgerys including mortality rates. I believe Sisters hospital has a program also and there is one in Buffalo called Synergy Bariatics. Good Luck.

Looking for a buddy in the Buffalo NY area
Hi Nicole, I am usually on another thread but I like to search around once in awhile and I found your post. I too live in Buffalo, South Buffalo to be exact. My surgery is October 13th. It could have been September 22nd but I was busy. It has been a long process but I think I am ready. Actually I would have said I am ready but I was at the beach last week, eating more than usual and am having trouble getting back on track. I am a "light weight" and don't have a whole lot to loose - perhaps 60 total pounds would make me happy. I go to Buffalo General and will have Dr. Hoffman as my surgeon. It will be interesting to hear the perspective of a patient of another surgeon. Let me know if you want to chat. Linda

Protein Shake Question
boy do I feel silly. I know what you mean now. I was thinking you might be talking about the New Whey liquid protein which I think some people call a bullet. I love this site and all the information I get.
