Dr. Aaron Hoffman - Lap Band done in Buffalo, NY (Dr. Hoffman)

Recommended Posts

I havent gotten anything until today from the website, well i guess i needed it, I had the lapband last april so i am coming up on 1 year. I have lost

50 + lbs. I am fustrated, i know i dont get enough excersize. and i feel like i am defeated. I really dont get alot of support from my husband, and i really dont have anyone to talk to on a regular basis.

Hi Rosebud. Sounds like you are doing good. 50lbs is a lot! It is difficult getting the type of support we need from these bariatric surgeries from our loved ones. They really do'nt understand how we feel. Now that the weather is breaking it'll be good o start walking. You should come to the support group meetings... You'll find plenty of support there too :-)

WOW i was beginning to think that noone reads these posts, lol. I dont drive so i cant make it to the meetings, but i wil be glad when the weather gets warm enough to start walking and doing the outdoor stuff i love. Gardening, swimming, and just plain outdoors. I am still struggling with food choices, but trying to be good. Seems like stuff gets stuck more often now, ( i need to slow down i think)

I see dr. hoffman next month and hope i lost a few more lbs.

So, I'm finally back on the website. I haven't been on in several months. I was banded on 5/25/10 and I'm down 78 pounds! A little over 1/2 of what I need to lose. The last couple of weeks my band has been really tight, but I haven't been to the gym in 2 weeks. Going back tomorrow, but I am going to be SORE!

When exactly is the support group again? I've been meaning to go, but just can never seem to make it. How is everyone else doing?

Hello

I am just beginning the process of getting the lapband at Buffalo General. I have my seminar date of April 28th and was wondering how long after the seminar did you get banded? I have heard many different stories that you could go a month after and as long as 6 months after. Just trying to get an idea of the time frame.

Thanks!!

Hey!

My timeline went and is going a little like this.

Jan 27th I had my seminar.. I started the paperwork in October!

Had my first appointment at BGH on March 1st which is with the physical therapist, nurse practitioner, and dietician

Had my 2nd appt with the dietician on April 7th

Had my surgery consult appointment on April 11th with Dr. Posner

At that point everything was in order and I FINALLY got to schedule surgery, which is going to be May 10th!

Once the ball started rolling, it went quickly. I didn't really hit any major speed bumps and they were all very shocked with how quickly I could get the whole pre-op process done but it is possible to get it in less than 4 months from the seminar date! They do take their sweet time with calling you so don't be alarmed lol.

Good luck!

Hi Girls,

I just wanted to say hi and to tell you all that Im on this low glycemic eating plan with no flour, sugar, artificial sweetners and Im doing really good. I have lost 11 lbs in 3 weeks and I have gotten rid of most of my cravings. Yes, it was tough at first and I did a 3 day detox where I only ate veggies and fruit but it seems to be working. Im back in my smallest size pants and Im actually looking forward to weigh myself these days!

Rain, what is the eating plan - just what you said? I don't eat much or any of that (flour, sugar or artifical sweetners) My cravings are horrible, especially at night. If I could stop the night time eating I would be in good shape!

Linda,

just google low glycemic eating plan. Im doing the plan for Lifestyles transitions but its just based on Low glycemic eating. I can tell you that I was a SERIOUS candy eater. Like a 1lb a week of gummys and I dont even crave them anymore. I used to eat a gallon and 1/2 of icecream a week but not anymore. It feels like a plan that you could live with. Lots of veggies some fruit and Protein. Pretty much anything in its natural form not packaged. Of course I still eat a cookie here and there but Im not like attacking people for a donut like I used to. I have been losing 2 lbs a week and lost 5 on the 3 day detox. This week on wednesday the 27th I get my offical body fat loss and can let you know if you are interested in the figures.

Thanks Rain. I have also been interested in a detox but don't know which one is safe for a diabetic.

Hey everyone!!!

I haven't been here in FOREVER!!! But just an update...I was banded in September '08, and I have lost about 140 lbs. So I'm at about 320. Then I started having issues last summer, but nothing that I thought wasn't just me chewing enough or something. Or talking while eating. I then had two seizures in a month, and both times I had seriously low potassium levels, something that triggers seizures.

So, I just started driving again, and the week before I did, I was waking up at night coughing, throwing up every day, so I made an appointment to have an upper GI. Well, the barium went NOWHERE so I guess that's what's wrong! I was basically malnourished, not eating properly...and mind you, only had 1.5 CCs in my band because I've always been wicked sensitive.

Dr. Hoffman decided right then to have me come up to the 2nd floor, and we made plans to have my band removed and revised to a sleeve. So my band removal is May 14th and my sleeve will be made on June 25th. Right now, my band is empty which ticks me off, but I'm in such a routine that I haven't changed my eating habits. This is a good thing!

I'm really excited to get the sleeve done, he said that if he would've been able to do the sleeve, he would've done it to me rather than the band. I'm in that small percentage that has issues! Glad to see that some of you have had it done and are happy. I'm all about the slow process with the band, but once it glitched...nothing else came off. So I'll be loving life at this time next year, for sure! :)

Hope all has been well with all of you!

--Sally

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
