Wow! I was surprised to find a thread on here just for Buffalonians! I'm in Kenmore and I just started the process. I have Independent Health and I have filled out the application and had my Dr. recommendation for medical neccessity sent over the Synergy in Williamsville. One of my fiance's friends was banded through that office, but I wish I had known about Dr. Hoffman! Either way, I am ready to get started. I have to admit though, I am very nervous about the surgery. I have never had surgery and there is just something very daunting about going to sleep, afraid that I will not wake up again.

So, do I have this process right? I filled out the application, sent my Dr. recomendation in, have my psych apt on 9/9/09 (at 9AM, wierd) and then I just wait for the surgeon to schedule a consulation and then they will submit to insurance? I called the insurance company to get the guidelines and they actually said this is becoming more and more common so they have seen shorter approvals. I even saw a comercial for it on TV!!! Do I have this procedure right? Any other advice other than to keep making phone calls to check progress?

Any advice would be appreciated!! Oh, and how do I find out when the seminars are available. Is it monthly, couple times a month, once every 2 months? I need to get started!!!

So happy to find a local support group!! :blushing:

Hello all, it's been awhile since I've posted on here so I figured I would let everyone know where I was at in this process. I have my psych exam today at 1:00, and I'm still waiting for my paper to see what day the seminar is this month (they told me when I went in in Aug that I was signed up for the sept. seminar so I hope they didn't forget about me) I am so excited to get this ball moving a little faster.

I need to go back and weigh in again, so I can start the SB diet, but I wanted to wait and see when the seminar is so I only have to make one trip(but if it's not till the end of the month I better go in sooner :blushing:

Hope everyone has a great day:rolleyes2:

Hi all, I hope no one minds but I seriously need to vent.

I had my psych eval yesterday with Dr.Lelito & I was so NOT THRILLED with him or the process. He seemed to me to be very flippant and I felt like he spoke to me like I was a child. The True/False 'test' also had to be the most rediculous thing in the world!!!!!!!! I was just very unhappy & uncomfortable so what did I do..............the same distructive thing I always do...........I went to the store, bought & ate an ENTIRE bag of chips!!

So now I'm doubting myself & my ability to stick with SB, lose ANY weight or even be approved for, let alone live my life with the LapBand. I'm so weak.

Hi everyone - had a bunch of bad bs going on the last few days but I'm feeling bit better.

MKat123 - I'm sorry to hear that was so horrible for you. I went to someone who my Insurance sent me to on their list. They never did a surgery recommendation before so I explained it all to her, we talked a bit about my weight history, my family, why I wanted to have surgry and how I was going to change my habbits. So as strange as it was, it was a good experience. In fact when I left she was hugging me wishing me the best of luck. I am trying to change insurance so I can start going back to my regular girl to get my head in the right place again.

So I guess what I'm saying is, don't listen to someone you will never see again! Know that the band is a tool and there will be a point where you will need to work hard to get it to come off, but if your head is in a good place you can do it! Start a Journal - write when you want to eat because of emotions, it really helped me. I waited an extra year to have surgery because I had really bad stuff going on in my life and I needed to get some things under control, so I do understand what you are saying. I wish you the best of luck, I am sure you will be a success with this!

Rain, I'm sorry about your plateau, but I am right there with you so your not alone. I'ts almost like my body doesn't want to be in onederland. It is so frustrating!!!!

I have an appt with the hoff on tues. but I don't think I need a fill, I am stuck on edy's home churned sugar free ice cream, and that is all i want. it is only 90 cal. a serving and about 6 gr of carbs,, depending on what kind, I love the vanilla and mint choc chip yuuuummmmmmy.

Mkat, I also had to take that true/false test and by the end of the 589 questions I was beginning to think I was crazy:blink:. The questions were outragous. I went to a local lady here where I live and I wasn't to impressed with her either. She seemed to be bothered with the whole process, go figure...she could have been a little more friendly or atleast pretend especially since I had to pay her $175.00 for the 2 hours I was there:mad:

I am glad to have it all over and done with and hopefully the results come back that I'm not insane and can have the lap band surgery...LOL

wow, that just seems crazy - like I said ins required pysc eval but they sent me to someone on plan so I only had co-pay and no huge questions.

OH... love your avatar.. I just got a new tattoo of a moon and trailing stars but really like that

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
