Vicki

I just got that big fill (for me anyway) and have been on liquids for 5 days now and down lbs. I am trying to get back to the reality of post surgery, so I'm going to hold out on Clear Liquids, but might add some Protein Shakes tomorrow, then the mushie stage as long as possible, i got "reminder" papers from the Dr. on Thursday.

Today I got a list of high Protein foods based on serving size. just what i needed! I Can try to scan and send any of this information anyone would like.

In a nutshell here is my reality check for the day.

Most importantly, no more onion rings... LOL

Go back to using low fat sour cream to mix with food (tuna, chicken salad, and stuff)

No more real butter, go back to using the bumble brown yogurt butter

No more store bought Salad Dressing (Ranch is my favorite to make any food go down) Low fat sour cream with a packet of ranch dressing mix

Protein first

vegies second

then Carbs and very limited

Staples I always use to eat

refried Beans

ricotta cheese ( I would make it like i was going to stuff shells, loaded with protein)

homemade sauce made with hot turkey sausage

Buritos, check the lables, they are high in protein and about 250-300 cal, add low fat cheese and you have 16-20 gprotein

I always have tuna - the 3oz size in my house

I hope that helps, it has really put things in perspective for me and I'm ready to go!

wow!!!!!!!!!!!I eat onion rings and I use real butter and chunky blue cheese dressing...........aaaahhhhh....... I dont know about this yogurt butter and i have never been told to use low fat sour cream to mix my food. I hate low fat sour cream. yuk... I do use turkey sausage and ground turkey when i can, and i don't do seafood of any kind, but I do do canned chicken, but I do use low fat mayo...thanx for the info..vicki:crying:

I use 1 container of Sour Cream to 1 pk of Ranch and yes any brand is fine, Wal-Mart actually has a packet of Fiesta Ranch which is really good to, kind of reminds me of the southwestern dressing from Applebees. I use to mix 1/2 sc and 1/2 l/f mayo but after time, mayo was used more than s/c

I started to slow down after a year, I have very slowly lost 25lbs since January, but because of a medication gained 20 and now that is gone, after a lot of work.

My Dr. told me yest that with the band, typically you only lose 40-50% of your excess weight and he was proud of me for being right where they said I would be, NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME.

After time, about the year mark, I started getting lazy on the good things I use to do. Since my fill, which was excessive for me, I have since lost 10lbs since last Thursday, I never wanted too much and to do it on my own, but I want to hit my goal, not my Dr's:thumbup:

I hope my blah blah blah helped. Did you guys try the 5 Day Pouch challange?

Actually I did that and it helped for a few days but I was still in onion ring mode (the pub I go to makes them homemade with homemade batter... yummmmmmm), so it didn't really work

 It is hard, i wanted to kill everyone around me.

I was reading a magazine last night, and it was funny - I saw the melted cheese thing, except they did more than 1 oz but after it started to melt, put a topping *they used pepperoni* and some italian seasoning an POOF... a crustless pizza, (cook until crispy)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
