I have lost a total of 40 lbs--have had 2 fills--1st one 1.2 cc's--little or no restriction, 2nd fill 2.0--too much restriction, so one week later had an unfill to 1.6cc. Now I have restriction in the morning, but around 4:00pm I can (and often do) eat more than I should. Seems most of my weight loss has been when I am forced to do liquids for the pre-op, post-op or around the fill procedures. I had hoped to be down another 10lbs by now, but at least I haven't gained weight, except a little at Xmas, which I dropped pretty quickly. I have 35 more pounds to lose to my goal weight of 150lbs or 45 for my dream weight of 140lbs or 50 more for my former younger days weight of 135 from ages 15-38. The truth for me about the band is that it isn't a magic wand, you still have to work at losing weight---but it sure does help!!!! Even if I never lose another pound, I sure look alot better than I did at 225!!

I was banded the same day as you! I have only lost 25lbs, and have an appointment tomorrow to see if I need a fill, which I'm pretty sure I do! What kinds of things are you eating and how many fills have you had? I am in the UK, so not sure if we do things a little differently.

MIA31, I REALLY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FOLLOW THE DR. DIET THAT HE GAVE ME. I AGREE THAT I 'M NOT LOSING FAST BECAUSE I ONLY HAD A BMI OF 39 AND WEIGHT 223. BUT I GET SO FUSTRATED THAT I AM LOSING SO SLOW. I'M GLAD YOUR ALMOST LOSING THE SAME AS I AM. I DECIDED TO TALK TO A DIETICIAN FOR A FEW food IDEAS, BECAUSE I'M THINKING THAT I MIGHT BE EATING SOME THINGS THAT I THINK IS GOOD,BUT MIGHT NOT BE! PLEASE STAY INTOUCH. I'LL TRY TO TALK WITH YOU MORE IN THE P.M.

Well the doctor said I didn't need a fill, but needed to do some exercise, which I guess is right I am also starting a low carb diet next week (or as soon as possible!) as I don't think the low faat, hi carb diet is working at all. You are probably eating some of the wrong things, so it will be good to see the dietician too. We can do it! We just need to be focussed! Mx

Hi!

I was banded on September 6th, so I guess that's pretty close. I started at 290 and have lost 52 pounds. It comes and goes in spurts though. I'll stay the same for a week, and lose three to four pounds the next.

I was banded 9/5/07- I have lost 55 lbs but it is slowing down now- I am still losing 7-8 lbs a month on avg- RED I am am now at about your starting weight so we will see what happens- I will say I probably should eat a little better than I do but you know how that goes- I am trying to step up my exercise to 5 days a week and trying to slow down on the starbucks!!

Jennie & Stacy - what kinds of things do you eat and are you both exercising? My doctor goes ON and ON about exercise (which I hate doing!) but I have had some of the best results when I have just controlled what I eat.....would love to know your secrets! M

Mia- I am hating the exercise right now too- I would like to say I have been going 3 days a week consistently but unfortunately it has been sporadic. But I have made a goal to exercise no less than 5 days a week now as I am trying to get 50 more lbs off by august- usually my food goes like this:

morning-coffee

breakfast-salad or Soup or couple pieces of cheese

lunch-meat and veggie or Soup and crackers

afternoon-granola bar

dinner-normal dinner with family depending on what it is- i cannot eat a lot of meat so I modify.

snack-sf pudding or piece of cheese

I know I can do better on my diet- I tend to eat a lot of cheese which is pretty high in cals-I also need to do more Protein drinks-my dr says we should still be doing 2 a day. It is a work in progress- I just bought a journal and am going to start writing everything down again. Controlling what you eat is the first step-but exercising is important-any exercise at all.just find something you can tolerate and build on it.

My dr. says totally the opposite. He don't want me to eat soup or drink any type of Protein. He wants me to "eat' my protein. He refused to give me a fill and i have to try and eat my Proteins. It's been 6mths and i only lost 30 lbs.FUSTRATED!!

Sorry for the delayed response...I just saw this!

I haven't begun exercising yet (treadmill is broken and I live in the mountains...a bit scary when it's dark!), and I HAVE to eat as high calories as possible due to a rare disease I have. So I drink a lot of calories, but eat between 3-10 bites per meal of whatever I want. I lose between 1 and 3 pounds a week usually, but have lost as many as 4 before.

I know what I'm doing is not what normal people are doing, but it's working for me and I haven't gotten sick (which is what that disease does to me if I eat too few carbs or calories), and I'm losing weight...even if sometimes it's slow.

Good luck!

Hi there...I was banded on 9/5/07 and I've lost 60 pounds so far. But. I am noticing your ticker and it looks like you have less weight to lose than I do. I was close to 300 pounds, and the first 50 came off very easy, but the last 10 has taken 2 months to come off.

I think that it's just a matter of how much weight you have to lose. I've gone up and down 50 for 10 years, but now I'm starting to hit the weight that's been on my for 15-20 years and it's going slower. I have no idea if that's based on medical facts, but it seems to be the case for lower bmi banders that it's slower to lose.

I know you're frustrated, but keep it up! You have lost weight, so it is working...and if you keep the rate you're going, you'll still do better than without the band, right?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
