Get my Band on 2/5, any helpful hints

Recommended Posts

i've read thru a lot of the questions and answers regarding supplies, gas, post op foods, etc.

Any advice that you bandsters have that maybe haven't been addressed yet? I am very excited (and nervous as hell) for the surgery. Thanks in advance for your help. Glad this website exists!

Hi Brookie

If there is any advice I can give - its to gather as much help as possible. If you have a husband or S.O. make sure he takes a few days off to take care of you. For me, the pain was significant - and little movements just hurt, ya know? If you have children, make sure you have someone to help take care of them too. I was banded on 1/9 and my husband took 3 weekdays off work, then a weekend, so he was there for me and my son. It would have been really hard to do things otherwise.

Thanks Sunshine!

Although i don't have a husband or SO, I am fortunate to have family and friends here. In fact, one of my retired friends (formerly a caretaker) has volunteered to come up the day of my surgery and stay as long as I need her.

Thanks again...

Brooke,

I haven't gotten my band yet (my date is 02/07/08) but I've read a LOT and I would recommend following your doctor's instructions to the letter and to be completely honest with him/her and yourself. Take things VERY slowly whether it be drinking liquids, trying new foods, or sitting down and eating. Lastly, ready everything you can get your hands on.

Good luck!

Hey Brooke,

Congrats! You will find answers to many of your questions, and some you never thought to ask on this site - my advice is to spend as much time as you can reading through the posts to prepare yourself. YOu will get a lot of support from the lovely people on this site - they have been invaluable in my journey to being banded.

Keep in touch,

Jen

I'm either being banded on February 4th or 5th as well. So exciting, isn't it? I only have to do three days of liquid diet in preparation, so I won't start that for a while yet. My husband is taking off 10 days from work. I run a daycare in my home and after about three days I think I'll have the kids back. My husband can do any of the lifting, etc. with them, so I think that will be good. My surgeon says that he doesn't want me in bed at all for recovery once I'm home. He said I should be up and doing normal things, so that's what I'm going to do. I have a 23 pound baby and my surgeon said it would be okay to lift him. I think I'll try not to for a few days if I can help it.

Yes...we should definitely have a sub group for Feb 5th bandsters. How funny that it's Mardi Gras or "Fat Tuesday" that day!! I think it's safe to say this will be our LAST FAT TUESDAY!! I'm enjoying this weekend and indulging a little it before I start my pre-op diet on Monday. Nothing out of control.....just a nice sushi dinner with my hub last night and a fun girl's night out tonight. Trying to narrow down some Protein drinks that I like. So far, I like Slimfast Low-carb and this powder I found called "Slim Script". How about the rest of you? How are you prepping for your pre-op diet?

GO CHARGERS!!!!!!!!!:(

Your band date is my 1 year bandiversary!

My only advice is to walk as much as possible after surgery. Now, lots of people think that means they have to get on the treadmill, or go out for a walk, but my surgeon told me that even just pacing around the house helps with the gas pains, and any movement you do after surgery helps you to heal faster.

You can do it! YAY!!!

don't overdo it on the pain meds, at the hospital (morphine drip) or at home (pills or whatever). From personal experience, I threw up a lot and it made recovery miserable, and could have made it dangerous, thank God I was ok. Nurse told me a huge percentage of people have allergy to morphine and it makes them sick. I don't know if that's true, but man, it sucked!

I was banded on 1/10. I was surprised by how much pain I was in from my incisions. I couldn't sleep on a bed-had to sleep in the lazy boy for 4 nights after coming home. I still don't have tons of "being around other people" energy even though my pain is mostly gone.

I had a c-section and thought it would be like that but it was totally different! I would say-ask for help as much as you want and don't do anything for a while-it might be weeks before your energy is up. It might not be. Just let your healing process occur and don't judge it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
