Do the Protein Drinks keep you feeling full? I was under the impression that liquids slide through the band....I need your expertise, please!

The truth is for me that you are correct liquid don't stick to you even if they are Protein drinks - the ones that are like milkshake do last a little longer cuz they are thicker than clear protien - but this is jmho - If I eat meat/fish it stick with you but the liquied doesn't - but when you are pre-op and post-op ya gotta drink them or add the protien powder to your Soups. Fact of life - I will tell you all pre-banders you will be hungry at times while on the pre-op and post op - but I found that homemade soups - creamy were the most satisfing - homemade broth better than the canned stuff - I lived on creamed soups (low fat) while on post op diet - I and you gotte experiment with your cooking

Hi Lynn:

I met with the dietician today. Everything she told me I have learned from this forum. I have to order the Protein Shakes Unic;;;;;sp something like that. I guess they get their cut from the company but I'll go along with it. I plan to do what the doc says.

Unjury? ??? it's ok - but I like the egg white one better - it doesn't have an after taste - but I don't think you can add the egg white ones to warm foods - with Unjury the food has to be less that 130 degrees or it will curdel... I would put the unflavored on in my coffee in the morning - but made the mistake of adding it while coffee was hot - Ugh!!!

Unjury has small packets for travel that will let you try them before you buy a big container. I like unjury so it is a personal thing and you just have to try untl you find the right one.

I also like Unjury. I do like the indiviudal packaging that is available, i can take it too work and add to almost anything, and having an unflavored one, means you can add it to anything.

I added the unflavored to diet ocean spray cran-grape. It was ok, but looked a bit funny.

For just getting Water in I like crystal light or any non brand name equivilant

good louck to all upcoming banders..

Janet, I work out with my trainer twice a week. Believe me, it's very easy for a man to make us feel like we are in high school again. I don't let myself go there, because I know he is married.

You are right on about the drinks not keeping us full. Post op, I did a lot better with creamed Soups too. At least I felt like I had a meal instead of drinking one of those shakes and wanting something else

right away. It took me a couple of weeks before I started being really hungry, and still had 2 more weeks of liquids before I could progress to mushy.

Lynne,

You don't even have to go to Edit Signature - just double click on your Ticker right from this thread and it will open so you can change it. Hopefully you remember your pin number. I forgot mine once and had to start over with a new one though. Since then I bought myself a little password book that I just love. I have soooooooooo many passwords and can't possibly remember them.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
