Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I got my first fill this past friday, it was OK, not great but then how fun can it be? I got 1.7cc in my 10cc band. I have noticed that today it seems more restricted than it did yesterday. I know i needed it because the wt loss had really slowed. my surgery was 8-17-10 and I have lost 21lbs but the past week prior to fill, nothing.

I was told by my new provider to look for about a 2lb wt loss and if it slows again or about 3 months out I may need another one. Well, that is my update. take care all.

productive burp - like burping w/food coming up - or throwing up w/o the stomach acid

you can go to the home page and some where they have a spot that tells you all the lingo

or you can read and ask

Can anyone tell me if someone can get hypothyroidism after the band? I have lost 75 but then started gaining again. Several symptoms I have point at hypothyroidism. I have a doctor appointment Friday but just wanted to see what you all know. Thanks!

Hey there, I wouldn't think hypothyroidism would come on suddenly or as the result of the band. Generally what happens is after we loose a large amount of wt (congratulations!) is that our body requires fewer and fewer calories in order to loose. The smaller we are the less fuel we require. For example when I was 356 lbs with my band I could eat 2500 cals per day and loose like crazy. I noticed my wt loss slowing down when I got to about 275. I cut out more carbohydrates and lost more without feeling deprived at all. I cut down to about 2000 initially the 1800 and so on. Now I am 38 lbs from goal and am on a plateau at 38 lbs away from goal. I will probably have to eat between 1000 and 1200 to loose the rest. Not sure that I am ready, LOL! I no long have a band, I have sleeve so no fill is indicated, I just have to do more of the work.

Good luck to you.

Corliss

Is your kitchen ready?? Protein Drinks? ? Something to mix them with?? I bought a "Magic Bullet" and used that a lot the first few months.... and we still use it... especially like it for grinding coffee Beans. When the time draws closer you might want to get some SF popsicles for your freezer.

How about things like Gas-X strips, liquid tylenol??

Hey guys,

I have really slowed in my weigt loss but that doesn't bother me as much as I have had an enormous amount of gas. Today my stomach swelled up with it like crazy. It is very uncomfortable. Has this happened to anyone else? I am going to see my doctor on Monday but thought I would see if anyone else had experienced anything simular.

On the right track

Gas advice?

Feel free to fart frequently. Move around a lot to break it up. Hot bath can get you farting. Some people swear by gas-x. Others by papaya. Walk around and do something noisy so people don't know you're farting. I like to sharpen pencils. LOL.

For me, avoid sourkraut. Avoid chocolates with the sugar alcohols instead of the sugar. Also, some SF high Protein granola bars or Protein Bars have chicory root or its active ingredient, inulin in them. As Jim Carrey would say, "Do not go in there."

I am new to this. I was banded on Oct 6th. Doing good. Looking forward to lots of support and ideas. I have a question. How much Protein should I get per day?

What did your doctor/nutritionist tell you about your protein? I'm asking because no two doctors say the same thing, and it's important to follow YOUR doctor's advice.

When I was 10 days post-op, I was still on Clear Liquids + 8 oz of Ensure (divided into 4 servings). No protein drinks, no solid food. Others were on solids within a week. I was given a 6-week plan for adding foods in stages but still no minimum protein level until I got past that point. Then it was 53-65 gms/day. Now I get 70-90 gms/day but I sure didn't at first!

If you are allowed protein drinks, that's the best way for a newly banded person to get in more Proteins w/o sending solids through that could aggravate the tummy.

If your doctor gave you no clue, give the office a call and get an answer. We can all tell you what WE did/were told, but it's important to follow your doc's plan - which means they have to tell you what it is!

Good luck and congrats on being banded.

More good advice! Thanks to all for the insight! Counting the days until surgery and hoping everything goes well.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
