Daisy, I have missed this some place. Why are you having the sleeve done? You have lost all your weight, right? Are you having trouble with the band? I do not mean to be noisy, but I missed this somewhere along the way. Thank you, Dot

Banded 9/29/2008

Lost 59 lbs since banding

110 more to go

I was throwing up in my sleep and my dr. made me get unfilled. I am really tired of trying to get restriction and worrying about fills and unfills. I just decided to get the sleeve and I will never have to worry about fills ever again.

I think this will be a better solution for me long term.

daisy I have heard so many good things about the sleeve. I considered it myself. Hard choice. The folks I know who choose by-pass .... only choose it because their insurance would pay for by pass, but not for the sleeve.

Sounds to me like you are making a sound choice.

My surgeon has a new book out called The Expert's Guide to WEIGHT-LOSS Surgery by Dr. Garth Davis. It may have some information in there that might be helpful. He talks about the Gastric Sleeve. Like I said before, it is something I would have done had insurance paid for it.

I love Dr. Davis' tv show. Does anyone know if it's back on?

Big Medicine was such a great show and you can tell that

Dr. Garth and his dad are great doctors.

Does anyone know if anyone else posts on this board that knows Katy? How will we hear from her if something happens, God Forbid!

Oregon...I believe Katy is somewhat close to folks in one of the Aussie threads. I could do a search and go ask

Went and did a check. Does not look like she has frequented an Aussie thread for awhile. It's usually just this thread that she would visit. I am sure they will need to keep her in the hospital for a bit after having the surgery she did. I am worried though. Wish we would have asked her to have her DD or someone else post that she is OK and surgery went OK. Been thinking of her a lot as I am sure everyone else has been.

I know we are all worried - but Apples is right. I am sure she would be spending some time in the hospital after this surgery, and it may just not be possible for her to post. Like Apples I wish we had thought to prepare better for this and have her DD post for her. Keep the loving thoughts going down under...

Yep, think we are all nervous about Katy, JoAnne. I'm going to stay positive and look forward to her letting us know she is recovering just fine. She's been through hell and think she was plenty scared going into this last surgery. (As we all were just as concerned for her).

How are you nerves, JoAnne? I am sure you are anxious for your trip. The time will be here b/4 you know it. Hope you have sufficient time to get your baby quilt done.

Zero visibility here today. Ice storm this morning and full blizzard by 11am. I feel like a caged animal.

I think I had asked Katy (Helene) to ask someone from the family to post that she was ok. If she had surgery on Monday morning, and they had to open her abdomin up which I feel fairly certain they did, she could be in the Hospital for 3-4 days. I'm not looking to hear from her until the weekend at the earliest or maybe even next week. Soooo,I just keep holding her up before the Lord.Gosh, you guys are all so wonderful to care as deeply as you about someone we don't even know. Love each of you.

Susan

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
