Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

I am better now and I do have an adjustable sleep number bed that I am pleased with. I have been sleeping practically sitting up since the surgery.

I generally drink Water two or three times before bed because I am really thirsty. Those small sips and at 2 0zs at a time is somewhat frustrating, however I am dealing with it.

Toy

Hi toyster,

I wish i had an adjustable bed, that would be bliss.

I wasn't given any diet instructions, limits or exercises to do after the operation. "Just eat sloppy food for a couple of weeks, then you should be able to work out for yourself what you can and can't eat".

I'm still having the blocked feeling and pretty much p'b at least once a day. Oddly enough, I've found the pulp of watermelon blocks me easily. I have been very naughty though.....................I've been having 2 stubbies of beer each night. It's heatwave time over here and an icy beer does wonders. I hadn't been able to drink it since the op as it would just froth and come straight up again, so I'm enjoying it now. I haven't put on any weight at all either which is great.

I have to Barium Swallow test on Wednesday.

I am pretty sure I have another hernia though because the hard bulge is there just like the other 5 times before.

Best wishes.

Long: I am soooooooooooooooo happy for you and your wt. loss. How exciting that must be. Hugs, Hugs, Hugs.

I hope your tooth feels better real soon.

Toy: I am glad you are feeling better, I've been holding you up in prayer.

Katy: how are you feeling? Have you had your testing done yet? We all need to join together and hold you up to the Lord for healing.Only say the word Lord and I shall be healed, Amen.

Melody: Wow what a weight loss, are you making sure you are getting in all the Protein? I think that's what kept me from feeling weak.

Hi Livn4Jesus,

Thankyou, I certainly will. I have sent out such painful pleas for his help. My test is on Wednesday morning. I am hoping they find the answer but that it is nothing serious.

Best wishes.

Hi,

I got sicker! When I went in ofr my first follow-up appointment this wednesday My doctor had me immediately admitted. I was indeed dehydrated.

They also said the liquids were backed up in my pouch and told me to lean to the right after I eat or drink to empy the pouch. I feel brand new and just a little hungry. I will be sipping all day with 15 to 30 minutes in between depended on how much Ihad to drink.

I start my pureed foods tomorrow. So far since my 1/16 surgery I have lost 26lbs.

Hi Toyster,

I'm so sorry you're still not well.

The dehydration is not a good feeling. I collapsed twice and kept getting dizzy and sick. My daughter asked the sugeon if it was because no nuitrition was getting through. He said "Yes, (smiled and said) she has lost a lot of weight though".

I didn't find it very helpful at the time though.

I found it very interesting about the liquids backed up in your pouch as when I p'b, gallons of Fluid comes up as well and I'm surprised where it all comes from.

Best wishes.

Gosh, you are all still in my prayers. As for weight loss, I also will go a few weeks without losing and then drop 5-8 lbs. Since it's been six months, I am used to that kind of weight loss pattern.

Since I had my surgery and 3 fills, I can honestly say, I don't crave food like I did before surgery as long as my band is tight enough. Let it losen up and it's a whole different story. When my band is tight, I have to remind myself to eat and I've noticed when my weight loss slows down, it's because I'm not eating enough. I eat what I want to, however, I try to make wise choices and when I do eat something like ice cream, it's once in awhile and not everyday like it used to be. I eat my Protein first and all else seems to fall in place.

I've said it before, I have been so Blessed with this whole process.

Hugs to you all,

Susan

Well, I'm still pretty new at all this - banded in early December - but I am finding in these few weeks that I, too, will go a week or more without a loss or a very small one --- and then drop 3-4 pounds. That has been my pattern in the past, though, so I am not surprised. In the past, though, I would be tempted to give it all up during one of those dry spells. Not anymore. I believe it is really important to keep up with fills if you are still having "real" hunger issues. As far as "head" hunger is concerned, that's a battle we will probably always be fighting to some degree. I am looking forward to my second fill next Friday and hope I will feel a little more restriction this time. I know it can take a few...

Please take a look back, though. If you have lost almost 30 pounds in 3 months, you really are doing well. I don't think I have ever done that on any diet... You are going to have your band for a loooong time - it will be there to help you along. Don't be discouraged...

Hi Everyone,

Wednesday is the big day = Barium Swallow test. From Midnight Tuesday, I fast till 10.30am. I can go without the food ok but the Fluid is going to be hard as the temperatures are in the heatwave degrees and haven't let up.

For Breakfast I've been having a large glass of ice cold milk with three spoons of milo.

Morning tea I've started having a large glass of freshly juiced carrot and celery juice with ice blocks, = delicious.

Trouble is, that whenever I drink or eat my midriff area immediately jutts out into a hard football and is sometimes painfull or just darn uncomfortable. It rarely eases without p'bing.

I've made an appt to see my GP tomorrow afternoon to check for another hernia. I see the surgeon again on Friday but I want to know beforehand about the hernia so I don't get brushed off with "It's ok, no rush". If it is another hernia, I want it fixed NOW not later on but fix the darn thing properly this time as this will be the 6th time. Enough already, no more!!!!

Best wishes.

I was on Clear Liquids for 3 weeks after surgery. sugar free popsicles, broth, tea. When you are on this diet you can continue to drink all day. Once I started soft foods and regular food, my doctor says not drinking 45 minutes before you eat and 45 minutes after you eat. This is easy, and I have never been sick, thank goodness!

Hi katydid, good luck with finding out if you have a hernia or what is wrong causing all that pb'ing.

I'm back from my cruise and came back UP 5 LBS!!! Boo hoo. I didnt eat terrible, but I snacked because of acid in my stomach which was still giving me trouble. Iv tried every anti acid since I got home, prilosec daily now too to see if that works. I took 3 different brands yesterday. Never had such acid problems I gotta cure before I can go back to strict dieting.

I'm still up a lb from when I left for the cruise. It was so hard to jump back on the walking and dieting bandwagon. Anyone who tells me this isnt a diet, must have more support from their lapband than I get. For the first time I suddenly feel restricted too. Very wierd couple of weeks, wasted as far as weight loss.

Flowers - gotta disagree w/you here - this isn't a diet it's about eating healthy - it's about a lifestyle change - our "normal" diet is what got us fat in the 1st place - My lapband doesn't choose my foods - it doesn't exercise for me -

Even with restriction - if I quit exercising and went back to eating "normal" I would put the weight back on in no time.

I could choose to eat around my band - I could eat candy cakes and Cookies - but I want to be healthy I want to live a few more years - my quality of life has improved 100 fold. and that in itself is worth skipping the bread plate - the 2 dessert - and high fat high sugar foods.

I eat and I eat good and don't feel deprived- omlets or yogurt and ceral for bf - lunch chicken veggies & rice - dinner fish veggies rice - Snacks ssf puddings - sf fudgecicles - snack pack popcorn - lf string cheese and 4 cracker - I have plenty of food and even enought feed my head hunger

I am going on a crusie in March - taking tennis shoes for the gym - I will be one of those pple who on vacation still exercise - so that I can eat that extra something - plus the last time I was on a cruise the sf cakes they made were just as good if not better than the full fat full sugar versions..

I truly feel that if you think of this as a new healthy lifestyle change and not a diet it will become easier..

Well, I feel deprived since I no longer eat Snacks that I want. Omelets or whatever you say makes you feel not deprived doesn't do it for me. I do go off the wagon on cruises which has to be good enough. Im back on the wagon until a wedding in March and then another cruise in April.

Everyone does the best they can, and I stay away from sugars and carbs since Im pre diabetic and know that's when I gain. I wish I could think of this as just a life style change, but since its not one I want, to me that feels like a diet. Lucky those who dont feel like they are dieting, I'm not one :w00t: I'm doing what I need to in order to be healthy.

The SF Desserts still have quite a lot of calories, more than Iv been eating. I probably have cut down a lot more than some here to lose? I have to watch my sister when I cruise and stay with her and she cant exercise much, so its hard to walk or go to the gym on a cruise. Usually at home she is at the senior center or with my parents so I can walk when Im not cruising. I do walk over 3 miles a day ordinarily. I did really watch what I ate, and only had one whole dessert and one time ate one piece of bread with dinner, but thats still much more than I was eating precruise.

Flowers - Just trying to help you get in a better frame of mind that's all - I hate it when pple think they are dieting cuz they (diets) just don't work..

I agree that some of the SF stuff has just as many calories as the full sugar ones. That is definitely true of the sf chocolates I buy once in awhile. Plus I have read over and over our brain does not know it's sugar free and it just keeps the cravings for sweets going.

I am pretty disiplined though and have started eating hershey's kisses. I can eat one hersheys kiss and put the rest away in my hiding place-out of sight out of mind. I think I would rather have real sugar than fake. I have problems with my liver and my liver specialist told me that

any fake sugar, even splenda, is not good for the liver. The liver is what filters everything out of our bodies.

Katy I pray that they give you some answers. all this throwing up can't be good for you. I can't wait to find out what answer they come up with as to why this keeps going on.

I gained weight over the weekend because broke down and had popcorn at the movies. I am sure it's the butter they put on it, not the popcorn itself. I hope it does not take me a week to take off what I gained in one day. Oh yes, and it was a large popcorn. I was supposed to share it with a friend, but she only ate about 2 handfuls. I should have gone into the lobby and thrown the rest of the bag away.

I know, I know. I would give my right arm for some popcorn, but I stick with low gi food. I smell something high carb like popcorn and I gain. I have promised myself those 100 calorie packs when I get to goal once in a while. I just know that kind of food gives me insulin spikes like crazy, wish it didnt.

I just want to lose this weight so much, that I'm doing whatever works for me right now. I did not mean to come off as unappreciative of your advice, just that popcorn is a trigger food for me to eat more too. I love it too much.

I guess I am very lucky cuz I still eat starches just not in the quainities that I use to - - that's why I like the WW eat plan - as I do get a little bit of everything..

I have a gf who looks at starches and gains weight... I guess being able to have a little bit of everything does make it easier for me not to feel deprived

Hugs....

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
