September 2023 Surgery buddies

  • Popular Post

Hello all,

I was posting on the "September surgery buddies" topic and somehow it seemed to get blended with the September topic from past years and so I figured why not just start a new one for us. I'm scheduled for what my surgeon calls a Duodenal Switch Loop September 19, 2023.

  • Hello, great idea. There is a previous thread labeled September also for Sept 2023 surgeries but this may be easier to search due to 2023 being in the title. I'll be having the gastric bypass on the 2

Scheduled for a DS on September 11. Counting down the days and running through the gambit of emotions. I didn't come into my surgery prep thinking that I'd be getting a WLS from the surgeon in an effo

Surgery was 4 weeks ago yesterday. Between the start of my two week liquid diet and this morning, I'm down 40lbs which is kind of wild to say out loud.

Day 18 postop, trying to get down these purees and guys ? I'm so over them. I know my stomach needs time, so I'm considering going back to Pro-Stat until I'm cleared to have normal food on the 23rd. I have hated everything I've tried. Chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, ricotta bake, taco bake (with refried beans) etc. I was picky prior to surgery texture-wise so I knew this would be difficult but was unprepared for just how nauseating it would be. In other news, I'm down 15 lbs since surgery day and 25 lbs since starting the liquid diet. I am quite pleased.

I had surgery on 19th sept. Just about to start puree stage. I'm still having pain on my right side around my scar area but it feels more muscle/internal pain sometimes shooting/stabbing pain. Is this normal and will it ease with time?

I get the same type of pain doctor said It’s normal. I had my sleeve the 18th of sept.

Late to the party, but my sleeve was done on 9/22. Just got to stage 4 for my diet, anyone else have major slime in the back of your throat after eating? Lost 35 pounds so far, not feeling hungry still.. just thirsty.

Oops I triple posted

I had that happen once when I overate and then tried to drink a little because something felt stuck. It was so gross. I ended up throwing up. (Had my VSG on 9/26.)

Are you taking Pepcid? My doc has me on it and other than the above I haven’t had any problems.

I’m on protonix and have omeprazole when that runs out. Had chronic gastritis before surgery, that acid has been almost unbearable though. I get the slime almost every meal except when it’s popsicles or something more wet.

Crazy to think that surgery was 4 weeks ago. Finally started on solid foods, I return to work next week (thank god I wfh) and I'm nervous but excited to get back into a routine. Also thinking of buying a mini stepper to get my steps in now that my days will be consumed with work.

Amazing I started work today wfh as well. My surgery was 5 weeks ago on the 18th. I’m just adjusting to solid it’s so hard for me I think I’m over eating although it’s just few bites I get pain and I need to stop eating.

Im 6 week post Op Im currently experiencing muscle cramps supposedly is due to low protein intake. If anyone has gone thru this tell me how you ate 90g of protein during a day. I need help.

My surgery was Sept 1. I am still learning thru trial and error but what seems to work is the time you start and the choices. So I start at 8am with either a 30g protein shake. I snack on anything with high protein. Ex: tuna packs, nuts, protein Quest cheddar crackers, a cup of decaf coffee and add protein powder too it or even grab another protein shake. That's 60g protein and your midway for those times where you may not want nothing for the moment. I also realized for much protein is in chicken, salmon, ground beef, etc. Also recently I just purchased some lactaid protein milk that comes in handy when you just don't feel like chewing on anything. 80z cup is 13g protein. I am literally still learning but I am realizing protein is essential, especially with hair loss[emoji4]. At times too I will grab some electrolytes, sugar free Gatorade or Propel. You got this and groups like this and other pages help me Alot as well.

Ps. Vitamins are key as well. My legs were cramping so I would grab a Gatorade and made sure I was staying in top of my vitamins
