Day 18 postop, trying to get down these purees and guys ? I'm so over them. I know my stomach needs time, so I'm considering going back to Pro-Stat until I'm cleared to have normal food on the 23rd. I have hated everything I've tried. Chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, ricotta bake, taco bake (with refried beans) etc. I was picky prior to surgery texture-wise so I knew this would be difficult but was unprepared for just how nauseating it would be. In other news, I'm down 15 lbs since surgery day and 25 lbs since starting the liquid diet. I am quite pleased.

I had my procedure on 9/29/23. It went well. I stayed 2 nites because I couldn't get the liquids in. I am struggling a lil bit to get liquids in now that im home. However I can be creative with my liquids compared to in the hospital. Im optimistic I can do this. Just throwing my vanilla protein shake in the blender for 30 seconds gives it a different taste! I'm happy we are all here and I know we can do this!!

Yeah it's just your ab muscles. They will gradually get a little better each day until one day you'll wake up and notice you're pain free. Try to move around as much as you can but don't over exert yourself. The more you move around the better it gets. Mine took a little over 3 weeks to stop hurting. Hang in there!

You have lost a massive amount of weight. Congrats.
Given that you are 6ft you may need to be eating more to sustain such a weight loss and have good energy levels.
Are you currently under the care of a bariatric dietician? If not please check in with one so that your tiredness can be investigated. Have you been having regular blood tests done to see where everything is? Having a bypass may result in malabsorsion of nutrients and lead to deficiencies that can show up in blood tests.
Being back in the gym will also require more fuel for energy. You may want to throw yourself back into the thick of it but dont. Slowly increase the rate and weights that you exercise with. Dont pop another hernia by rushing things. Does the gym have an exercise physiologist that can give you guidance? Please seek one out. Walking is a great place to start.
Your wife IS right. You just had major surgery and that by itself will take time. Dont try to run before you can walk.

Today was the 3 month anniversary of my bypass/hiatal hernia repair. I've done ok on the calorie restricted diet--still can't eat certain meats (I've stayed away from steak which I love, haven't eaten lamb and even a moist pork chop is a little tough for me- instead, I'm eating. lot of fish). My portions are small-- -protein say three tablespoons, veggies, two tablespoons, mashed or sweet potato- 1/2 a small sized one.
Today I weighed myself- I went from over 271 to 221 which is kind of crazy! (I am around 6 feet, used to be taller but I'm a geezer so I'm shrinking).
Hooked up at a new gym that I can walk to from my house, so I will go more frequently and won't need to spend money on ride shares (I prefer not driving in town). I was shocked at how weak I was--It is going to take some time to strengthen and I'm being very cautious about torquing my gut given the surgery (even though the surgeon cleared me for weight lifting).
    I'm doing my supplements.
I guess this is a good news/bad news thing- not that I live by the scale but I was amazed at how much I've lost so quickly.
And a little disappointed in how weak I am. My wife said, "dude, you went through major surgery, take your time." She's probably right.
There is no question that the surgery + pretty strict adherence to the post-op diet does work. Now I just have to rebuild my strength over time.

Yes! I forgot to add that! Everyone gets their own anesthesiologist or nurse anesthesiologist. They are AMAZING people, there for you and only you, from start to finish! They manage your breathing, your anesthesia, and stay with you through the whole procedure. I always love meeting the anesthesiologist before surgery because they check over everything so carefully and while everyone else is focused on the surgery itself they are 100% focused on YOU. Plus they are the ones with the happy drugs! ?

Cary38 reacted to SleeveToBypass2023 in How long were you down and out?
With my sleeve, I took 2 weeks off and needed every bit of it. With my revision to bypass, I was up and doing things after 4 days. Only took a week off, but honestly didn't need it. Still took it, though lol

Cary38 reacted to Big Matty in How long were you down and out?
I took two weeks off from work, although I did feel well enough to go back to work after a week. I made myself take the two weeks because knowing myself, I would have busted a stitch going back sooner. I have a job where I need to lift up to 75lbs, so I went on light duty with a 25lb lifting restriction for 3 weeks. No problems, and I am 2 months out from surgery and back to my pre-surgery lifting. However, I did get lightheaded on occasion, and a little weak. I slept more than usual. I developed back issues due to my weight, and it really started to hurt more than normal the first week or two I came back to work. The pain radiated out of my lower back up to my shoulders and neck. Things have gotten much better as I take the weight off and get back to a more routine of diet and exercise.
