    Eating With The Duodenal Switch

Hi all. I have been on bariatric pal since last June. I was scheduled for a Loop DS September but had a complication with AFib. This has been addressed and I am scheduled for Monday 1/29/24. I just wanted to say this topic for me has been most helpful. I see many posts about protein, eating often and low carbs. I think for me this is very helpful. The nutritionist I'll be working with works in the bariatric department. I expect I'll be utilizing her often. Just as an aside I have been on Atkins type diets often including the original Atkins in 1971. Great information, thank you.

    January surgery buddies?

Yes my date is Monday 1/29, starting the diet this Sunday 1/12. I'm having Loop Duodenal Switch. I am also pre-diabetic and have had GERD for a long time. I'm mainly nervous about surgery complications. I'm 68 years old. I think as long as the surgery is successful without any major complication I am strong willed enough to handle most anything after the surgery. As they say, we'll see.

    January 2024 surgery buddies

I am re-scheduled for 1/29/24. Original Loop Duodenal Switch surgery was scheduled for September but I had A-Fib. which had cardioversion and is now normal sinus rhythm. Surgery will also fix a hiatal hernia. I am 68 years old. I am a bit worried about the recovery but I'm looking forward to getting on with the rest of my life. I've been overweight since I was about 15. I was on the "original" Atkins diet in 1971.
  4. Hello all, I was posting on the "September surgery buddies" topic and somehow it seemed to get blended with the September topic from past years and so I figured why not just start a new one for us. I'm scheduled for what my surgeon calls a Duodenal Switch Loop September 19, 2023.

    Some random post op thoughts....

I'm 68 years old and it was nice to hear from an older member. All of your points ring true and overall you seem to be doing great. Congrats on becoming "normal" size." I'm STILL pre-op. I was one week from surgery and came up with A-Fib which the cardiologist and I are working on. I'm hoping to be able to have the surgery by the end of this year. I think there will both phyisical and mental challenges, we'll see.

    Mexico Bariatric Center Tijuana

@RiaMaleahI wouldn't go anywhere near Mexico right now. Have you not seen what is going on there. It's totally corrupt and run by the drug cartels. IMHO not safe to visit anywhere. Just my opinion.

    Surgery Dates in September 2023

    9/19 This is getting real!
  13. @SleeveToBypass2023 Duodenal Switch Loop aka:SIPS Its what the surgeon recommended based upon my type II diabetes and GERD.
  14. I only have about 80# I want to loose but I've been overweight for over 50 years and have yo-yo'd since 1971. I have enjoyed bicycling but that extra 80# is like riding with a bag of cement. I would also like to ditch my medications. Scheduled for 9/19.
  15. Still looks like it's going exceptionally well.
  16. Great story. Do I read this right - You've lost 132# in two months?

    First appt Tomm, super nervous!

Hello @Readybutscared I am similar in size to you 5'7 1/2" and currently 240 pre-surgery. My DS Loop surgery is schedule for 9/19. I guess we''ll see how it turns out. Of course I am nervous. I'm 68 years old. I feel like I should have looked into the WL surgery years ago. I've struggled with weigh for over 50 years. Like you I hide my weight well and don't appear to be obese. As I have gotten older I have developed weight related complications requiring medications; GERD, high blood pressure and recently type II diabetes. As I said we'll see how this works out. I'm tired of being a fat guy and want to see what it's like to have a normal weight my remaining 25-30 years. I enjoy bicycling. I told my surgeon try riding carrying an 80 lb. bag of cement.

How to explain this to my kids??

My surgeon suggested "I'm working on improving my overall health" and the surgery is a part of that.

    September

I'm now scheduled for September 19th. I could have gone earlier but wanted to wait till after the summer and I have a few business trips in August. I attended the 3 nutrition classes and I believe I was the oldest in the class. I've been yo-yo dieting since 1971 - the original Atkins diet. I'm just tired of being fat and would like experience a normal body weight my last 20-30 years.

    Moving After Surgery

I am an accountant. I know people in my profession all over. I've met them in training and conferences. I know know who the really good ones are. They are usually presenters in the trainings. I would ask your current surgeon for a referral. Dietician also.
  24. 42 pounds in 7 weeks. That's great.
