Black bean burgers

Recommended Posts

So I'm coming up on my pureed portion of my recovery, and I'm trying to get creative on what I can eat and I was thinking; are black bean burgers okay? I realize that they're basically mashed Beans, so surely they must be okay? But I just wanted to make sure before I placed my grocery order online.

Purées still have to be pretty soft & runny. Think sloppy, gloopy & dollopy to help you swallow your food & make it easier for your still healing tummy to digest. Refried Beans can be on puréed food list but you may have to add some stock or gravy, etc. to make them runny enough. The patty itself would be fine in the soft food stage. But do check with your team to be sure about their requirements.

Dang, but that makes sense. I just recall seeing a post about it in an old thread here so I hadn't really considered it but I did go ahead and emailed my dietician while making this post too. Just sent it after hours so she won't be able to get back to me until tomorrow at the earliest. And I'm totally fine with them not being ok, I'm fine with Soup, yogurt, cottage cheese, and mashed potatoes just anything other than the Protein Shakes & gatorade I've been stuck with for these two weeks in post-op for my liquid phase lol. I've been slowly going mad with just that. lol

Agree with the above post, in my pureed/soft stage (mine was combined), I was allowed refried Beans but they were too dense as is, so I had to mix with greek yogurt or broth to avoid the food stuck feeling in your chest.

save it for soft!

on pureed, as gross as it sounds, eat baby food jars.

if you dont want to go that route, look at what all you can do with blended cottage cheese! You can add flavorings to it, warm it up and melt shredded cheese into it, you can mix it with stuff. cottage cheese is very versatile

Blend that black bean burger up with some sort of condiment to make it runnier. I bet it would taste good. It's hard getting past the concept of blended foods though.

I second the suggestion about blended cottage cheese. I liked to add feta cheese or cucumber to mine.

At this stage you might almost be better off with a hearty thick black bean Soup vs a burger, if you're craving Beans. You could use almost all the same ingredients that would go into the burger.

My dietician said baby food is for babies. It does not have the same nutritional content an adult needs. You can puree chicken breast by adding Water or chicken broth to it. it actually isnt that bad. I added sugar free BBQ Sauce to add flavor. Also, just buy a can of no added sugar fruit like pears or peaches and puree them. I also pureed canned green Beans and carrots. Everything tastes the same you just have to get over the consistency.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
