I thought I wasn’t suppose to be hungry after my sleeve. I am 5 days post op. I’m not eating enough Protein Shakes cuz z it’s not good anymore. Is this hunger normal?

Are you on any stomach acid reducing meds? You may be feeling hungry but a couple of other things may also cause you to feel like you are hungry....too much stomach acid, thirst.

Do you best to keep up fluids and if you are not on any medication to reduce stomach acid, have a chat with your surgeon or doctor.

Yep, stomach acid & thirst can be causes of what you think is hunger. A rumbling tummy is also in most cases not a sign you are hungry either (not like we were always told). The surgery, restricted diet, etc. are all very stressful & your hormones are likely out of whack too. In the past when you were stressed or hormonal or emotional you likely turned to food to comfort or distract you. You can’t do that at the moment but you still want to eat to soothe yourself. However this is just head hunger not real hunger. Try distracting yourself. Go fir a short walk, read, craft, chat with a friend, watch a movie, check social media, etc. Sometimes a warm drink can help: herbal or green tea if you’re allowed, warm Water, warm your shake, etc.

The shakes were awful for me too. I forced myself to have one in the morning then had strained cream Soups, broths or consommés. Yoghurt drinks are also an option (blend a high Protein yoghurt with milk until it’s thin enough to drink easily).

I never lost my hunger from my sleeve. Not once. And now I've had my revision from sleeve to bypass, still hungry all the time. So sometimes it happens.

Shortly after I woke up from anesthesia, I told the nurse I had hunger pains and she said it was actually gas pain. I've felt it on and off since then, throughout my liquid diet and now in the puree stage. Walking around can help. But, yeah, I've heard that whole no longer feeling hungry thing isn't true for everyone. I hope yours is just gas pain and you'll be one of the lucky ones who stops feeling hunger once you're healed!

I couldn't drink Protein Shakes either - they taste disgusting now. I understand your worry about hitting your Protein goals. Personally I have found clear protein isolate much easier to drink - it comes in different flavours and just mixes into Water. It also comes unflavoured so you can mix it into Soup.

I am three weeks post mini gastric bypass and I feel hungry too. So much so that I have started on soft food much earlier than my plan dictates. I know this is wrong so I am going to try and stop this. Could it be "head hunger" that you're experiencing? I say that because it's very common apparently. I think our bodies are going through so many changes but our brains are going to be playing catch-up.

I'm very lucky - since my surgery 3 months ago I've never had hunger signals. I have no full or hunger feelings. I'm Loving it ! I know it won't last - sigh- but I'm enjoying it while I can.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
