Returning to work post surgery

Greeting everyone! I want to know how long after the roux-en-y gastric bypass was it before you were able to return back to work? I am so excited with mix with mix feeling. More excited than anything. My surgery is July 3 rd, 2023.

I was able to do desk work and chores (except the heavy lifting, of course, as per my surgeon) on day 3, but I did feel tired for a couple of weeks possibly due to low calorie intake, borderline dehydration and general recovering from surgery. Some recover fast, some recover slower but whatever your case is, don't rush back to work if you can help it. Relax and heal faster.

All good vibes to you and your recovery! I was really loopy the first three days, but after that I only felt better each day. The best was finally sleeping in my own bed instead of propped up in a chair/recliner. Keep up with your Water and move a little every hour you are awake. Just do a little something if you can because moving helps you get better faster, and prevents bed sores.

I work a desk job, from home.

I took 3 weeks off and I would have been happier taking more. I had an issue with my diaphragm - for several months - that made it difficult for me to sit straight up and down. So, sitting in my office chair (even with it reclined) was painful.

The diaphragm issue is still there - 8-months post op - but it's much better. I can sit in my office chair all day and not have an issue.

I had my surgery when I was 62, disabled and very unfit. Had I still been a working girl then I would have needed 3-6 months. I had a rough time

It's really contingent on how well you do and what kind of job you have. I had a desk job (I'm now retired). I took three weeks off but could have gone back after two. I'm glad I had the third week because I was still pretty tired and it was nice having the time to get used to the eating progression, but yes, I COULD have gone back after two weeks.

Six weeks for me but I have a physically demanding job, should have taken another week or two, 14 X 12hr shifts really burned me out bad.

Everyone is different and very much depends on the physical demands of your job. I wfh and took no time off work. I was back to work travel at 3 weeks post op
