Hey guys I have my surgery July 17th, I have to do the liquid diet as well 2wks before my surgery. But I am able to eat dinner if I choose too. They did say doing the liquid diet will shrink the the liver to help the procedure better. I know everyone have different plans from their drs. Congratulations to everyone.

Hi all I’m new and surgery date not set yet but he is saying end of July beginning of August, my concern is the Vitamins , does anyone know which ones are good for not getting nauseous? Also , what about pill form medications we are on now. How do we continue taking them once we’re on liquid diet only ? Any info will be helpful! Nice to meet everyone.

Welcome! I was told to speak with my PCP about one of my current meds, but the other two meds I was told were fine to continue taking. Not sure about which Vitamins are better for nausea. Good questions! It's nice to meet you, @Vlynn57.

I am scheduled for the sleeve on July 19. I'm having trouble deciding how much of my current wardrobe I should start giving away. I feel "buyer's remorse" because of all the money I've spent on clothes. Does anyone else feel this way?

awesome less than a month away!

i think the closer i get to my date the more exciting it is for me to get rid of anything that’s even remotely loose or loose fitting. i just threw it all in a bag to donate without looking back and anything new with tags i’m going to try and sell and use that money to buy new stuff.

I like my clothes and am still holding on. I’ve lost weight before on diet so part of me still has that memory of giving stuff away only to buy bigger sizes again later when I regained my weight. But I know this will be different. I’m most looking forward to buying bras in a normal shop. I currently have to buy them online and they’re very expensive.

Welcome, @DeeLCee! You made me think. I hope to bypass that buyers remorse and replace it with gratefulness, at least that's what I'm telling myself. But I realize this is all new and we're in the process of changing our mindset. I haven't begun packing up clothes yet. My surgery is in late July. I wasn't planning to discard of my current sizes until after surgery. I imagine myself trying on clothes and hoping they no longer fit,,,and then remove them from my closet. I think that will bring much satisfaction. But that's me. I can also understand the desire to take the time now to clean out the closet. As my surgery date gets closer I may want to start getting rid of things. 🤷‍♀️

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around smaller sizes. I haven't put too much thought into that since my main motivator is getting the surgery to improve my health. Getting into smaller sizes will certainly be the bonus, and I should start getting excited about that!

Those are my thoughts. I wish you all the best on your surgery - you're a week before me. 😊 💟

Hi all! My VSG is scheduled for July 20th. I can’t believe it is already less than a month away! I am excited and nervous.

I’m a planner and in healthcare. So, when I started considering the surgery, I watched a ton of vlogs and read a lot of research articles. 😂 My good friend had the VSG a few years ago and answered all my questions.

I’ve been more aware of what/when/how I’m eating and have lost weight since officially starting the process in March. I almost completely eliminated alcohol and caffeinate in March so it wouldn’t be too much all at one time. I think that has had the biggest impact on how I feel. Not that I’m an alcoholic, but I’m definitely a caffeinaholic!

I sleep so much better because the changes I’ve made have reduced my GERD. I am excited for the changes to come! I find my clothes are loose and I have more energy too!

I have 2 friends, my husband, my kids, my mom, and my sister as my support system. My job just knows I’m having surgery. They don’t know the details.

I start my liquid diet on July 10 while I’m on vacation! I could have made it later, but I’m just ready to start my new life ASAP!

My center has a clothing swap. Maybe you can “trade” clothes while you’re losing so it doesn’t feel so wasteful??

That sounds great! My center is a strict 10 liquid diet. I wonder why they are all so different??

Right I was trying to figure that out as well. Someone I know only had to do it 2 days before 🤷🏽‍♀️. Congrats on your surgery date

Hi Aimee! I have surgery one week after you. We have some things in common. I, too, worked in healthcare. I retired from nursing many years ago to get my degree in counseling. So LOTS of research on surgery options...for years. It's finally good to move forward.

I have two friends who had the sleeve almost 2 years ago. Watching their incredible journey is inspiring. I start my liquid diet on July 13th (x2 weeks). I'll look forward to hearing about your progress. Feel free to reach out. Hopefully we'll be back here to share our wonderful experience. 😊 I'm excited, too. I'm a young-ish grandma (62), and I'd like to have my health reverse in as many ways as possible. I wish you well!

Hi ChewChew! I, too, am told to do the 2 week liquid diet x2 weeks to shrink the liver. They are also doing a liver biopsy on me at that time while my surgeon is there (well, plus I have liver dx.). You're right about everyone having such different plans. Interesting. I wish you all the best! And congratulations to you as well! 💟

Thanks for the encouragement, @NYCxCoco! I know so many struggle with that liquid diet, so it's good to know it's possible for it not to be totally grueling!

I weighed 199 pounds (90 kg) this morning! I felt accomplished and happy, and celebrated by going to the gym to lift some weights. Hoping everyone else out there is making progress, whether you are pre- or post-op 😊
Today is 7 weeks and two days post-op for me. I've been through two stalls already, but I am sticking to the program. I want long-term success from all of the sacrifice and pain. You all know I mean!

Okay so, as of yesterday my insurance company contacted me direction to say, that I was approved and have completed all the required items on the "To Do List". so, I should be getting my appointment next week for meeting with the Anesthesiologist. I'm very excited/nervous, but extremely happy too.

Tomorrow will be 7 weeks since surgery. Yesterday i found that I was able to finally drink more than a sip at a time. I am SO grateful! I have always loved drinking water and it has been my primary beverage for most of my life; losing the ability to drink a lot of it was my first post-surgical regret. Being able to drink more than a tiny sip at a time makes me feel so much more normal.
I'm eating around 500-700 calories a day, and have hit my second stall. I have begun to only weigh myself once a week. I've made to the gym twice since surgery, but I've been walking my pup and walking at work up to 3 miles a day on average.
I've also been using resistance bands and stretching. I'm not quite ready for twisty yoga stuff yet. Or jogging. I did do a 10+ mile bicycle ride last weekend with a friend to a coffee shop where I had a cold decaf coffee with half and half. That was another activity that made me feel kinda normal.
I'm still drinking one protein drink a day, trying to hit my goal of at least 60 grams a day. Today I got 72 in thanks to a cold G Zero with 10 grams.
My abdomen is still a bit sore in general. The way I understand it, the inside is not fully healed until 3 months after surgery. That means sometime around November 1st. This is when I will go on the forever way of eating according to my provider's plan. I look forward to that day.
Oh! And I should mention that I learned about a chain restaurant that is in about 30 or so states. It is called Clean Eatz, and they have a menu that is friendly to we bariatric patients. My support group last night talked about getting pizza and flatbreads from there. I checked it out and it looks like it's both eat-in and takeaway. This is the first place I'm going when I feel ready to eat out again

Does anyone know, how long it takes for Medicare to approve surgery?

I think it depends entirely on what guidelines you're being referred under. I had that kind of insurance through the state as a low-income person for 10 years and even though I was over 400 lb for 10 years they denied me. All based on the fact that I did not have diabetes. I switched insurances once I was offered a different kind of coverage from work and was approved within two months

        Medicare or Medicaid?

They both have a serious of hoops to jump through before you can meet the surgeon. After you meet the requirements and as long as you do not run into any gatekeepers, the surgery will be okayed by your insurance pretty quickly after the surgeon clears you. One other consideration is when the clinic will actually schedule you for surgery THAT can take awhile depending on how backed up they are.

I got a little bag of samples when I saw the nutritionist last week. Turns out I much prefer the Celebrate 45 Tropical Twist vitamins to the Bariatric Fusion orange flavor, so I've placed an order for those and the sweet treat assortment of calcium soft chews, which were almost dangerously tasty. The Unjury chicken soup was better than the other brand I tried, but not enough to buy it. And their vanilla shake was vile. I just can't do artificial sweeteners, and probably not vanilla unless I add something to it to mask the flavor. The aftertaste was so strong and I had a vague impression of drinking baby formula. So far the only ones I've really liked have been the orange and peach flavored Syntrax Nectar Naturals, so I'm going to get two vegan fruit flavored options in case I have trouble with whey after.
