I'm not worrying about Protein during the liquid phase, it's impossible to meet so once I start purees it'll be my main focus. I'm so sick of this stage. Six more days...

La nena buy the unflavored Protein and add it to your Soup or broth

Oh yes. I forgot they made unflavored. Thanks. Hopefully that will help me get through the rest of these day. Thanks.

Go somewhere fun to get your steps in. Nothing crazy, just somewhere new. Just make sure to bring a Protein Drink and a water bottle. And not go alone, if you can. A nice shop, farmers market, or park is a good choice. Walking a main street in a cute little town is fun. Once we get a free weekend, we're planning on a trip to a museum. Of course, this is all based on how you're doing, so don't push yourself too much. Start slow and work your way up, and give yourself grace to stop if you need to. My team wanted me walking 2 miles a day, almost immediately. It's a lot, but if I can focus on something else, it makes it easier. And BTW, I still haven't made the 2 miles, but I'm getting close.

Hey, so I’m getting my RnY with HH surgery soon and some of you have spoken about having issues swallowing/drinking right after surgery. Is it more of a sore throat feeling or deeper down into the hernia/ stomach? I currently have a sore throat and it’s almost impossible for me to even sip Water it hurts so bad… just wondering if that’s a possibility after surgery.

@AmandaD. It's hard to give a definitive yes or no. Everyone is different. My experience. I didn't have any issues drinking. I had rny, but not hernia repair. My issue was, liquids taste off. I'm still dealing with that almost 3 weeks out.

@AmandaD. I had the sleeve done 8 days ago and had no issues. No sore throat or anything, just dry and chapped lips from the ventilator. The issue is having the liquids with 75% of your stomach removed. It’s just a trial and error. Getting used to taking tiny sips out of medicine cups, but it’s crazy how quick that improves. I’m already up to drinking about 50 Oz of Water per day. I’m down 12 pounds since my surgery 8 days ago.

Hey guys,

i had a gastric bypass yesterday. I spent most of the day sleeping, then woke up about six hours, and went for a walk around the recovery area. I was not allowed to drink anything so in order to take away the dryness of my lips I used a wet gauze. The gauze also helped to clean the inside of my mouth to remove the anesthesia remnants. I was transferred to a room about an hour later to continue my recovery. I have experienced cramping, gas, gas pains in my collarbone, but it has been manageable. Today I have spent the day walking a bit, sitting on a chair and moving around the room so I don’t lay down. I had a G.I. test done this afternoon, which is done to make sure the stomach doesn’t have leaks. I was cleared for stage one diet, which consists of 2 ounce of chicken broth, 2 ounce of tea, and 3.5 ounce of Jell-O. I managed to sip the broth, but there was some cramping so I stopped. I read somewhere that I should take 30 minutes to sip the 2ounces.. that’s all for now guys. I’m supposed to be discharged tomorrow. How is everyone doing? Would love to hear about your journey.

7 days Post Op now. Sadi-s

Wow this has been so hard!! My entire entertainment selection has consisted of people eating those unhealthy foods that we shouldn’t be having for a long while.
My head hunger is insane. Erik the electric videos, Instagram, Facebook, everywhere is just delicious food videos. It’s been really hard.

I’ve really struggled getting through the liquids stage. I’m not sure how to keep going.

I ordered a Soup from a local bakery today because I’ve been struggling eating. I know I haven’t been getting near enough.
Loaded baked potato soup that I put in the blender. It was amazing. I’m not sure if it’s something I’m allowed to eat or not but I went slow and let my tummy talk for me. Can’t wait to be out of this liquids stage. Feeding my whole family delicious food like Alfredo and Grilled cheese and Pesto and every other thing that they are eating has been so hard.

I know other people are struggling but it’s been pretty bad for me. Been extremely light headed and dizzy today and decided I really needed to focus liquids and getting more food. Hopefully things stable out.

My two go-to’s are vanilla pudding (Sugar Free) Life saver, Cream of chicken Soup, and I just had my first bit of Greek Yogurt and honestly I am grateful I did. I didn’t realize how well my stomach would take to the yogurt.

I’m about 32 oz of Water today and it’s 5 PM which is a lot better than every other day. I know I’m dehydrated so I really need to get it under control but I’m doing my best!

I know this is all a jumbled mess of updates, but again lightheaded and foggy minded lol.
The reason I took the time to post this is because wanted to check in and see if anybody else is struggling like this? Or am I an outlier minority? Goodluck everyone. I think once I can have a string cheese next week, refried Beans and scrambled eggs, everything will be better I hope.

That’s all for now…. >:(

For those who are around 1 1/2 post op would you be ready to drive 5 hours to see friends and family for a long weekend? My surgery got moved to June 7th and I have a friends get together 5 hours away the weekend after. I’ll be 10 days post op. I know everyone’s post op is different but generally speaking???

You would maybe be okay for the drive. However, the dietary restrictions may be hard to follow. You'll be on full liquid, no alcohol, tired. I would seriously think it through.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
