Julie, you should be so proud of yourself.... doing your own drainage! Just think of the education you have gained about your own body over the past year. WOW.

Lest anyone think PS is all fun and vanity, I've developed seromas (pockets of Fluid accumulation that are too big for the body to absorb) in both of my legs. I just had way more fluid with this surgery than with the others and though it was time for the drains to come out (they were really irritated), my body is still making fluid that now has to be drained by needle.

The joy of this, is that I have to do it myself, since I'm back home in NYC (PS in AL, you'll recall). Ah, such a delight. My Dad showed me exactly how to do it and made me practice before I left, but it's NOT FUN, particularly for a non-medical person such as myself.

He says it SHOULD resolve within 10 days or so, but let me tell you, YUCK. (The good news is, it's not particularly painful to do the draining as I don't have much feeling near the incision on my legs anyway. It hurts more to let the fluid build up to where the spots on my legs are tight to the touch.)

It's an annoyance more than anything, I guess, but I do find it depressing as well.

Diane, how long did it take to get your seromas under control?

Julie-Sorry to hear about the seromas. I went to my surgeon's today for the last of the drains to be removed and thought that I had a seroma. Well the good news is no seroma, the bad is the drain stays until Friday. You're right, PS has it's ups and downs. Hope things go well with you.

Julie, I'm sorry to hear about the seromas, and hope they are getting better.

I have a couple of questions about the port replacement. Did they have to unfill the band to replace the port? If so, did they add some saline back to it then, or did you have to remain unfilled for a period?

Like yours, my port is very visible through clothes. If you had it to do over, would you go ahead and get the port below the muscle? I'd hate to go through all this surgery to still have a bulging port (although to have it less visible through clothes would still be worth it).

Julie, where was/is your port placed?

mine is right between my ribs in the center...where the top incision from the lap band surgery is.

although, i've heard that some people's port is placed more toward their side. so i'm curious where your port is located and if that has anything to do w/it bulging....

and, if that has anything to do w/ppl saying that there port is visible through clothing.

and, i'm kinda thinking....i don't care if my port shows through my clothes - which right now it doesn't - but, i'd rather have a port show through clothing then a big belly roll like before....although, i'm kinda still working on that belly roll thing...lol. but you know what i mean.:hungry:

Christie,

Mine is below my ribcage on my right side. About 2 inches up and 2 inches to the right of my belly button. It's placed where it kind of looks like I have really rockin' ab muscles -- like the beginning of a 6-pack (haha), so I don't really mind it so much either.

Julie - I hope that you feel better soon, what a nightmare that you get this complication on the final leg ( excuse the pun) of the journey.

I admire you for doing your own drainage, I dont know if I could do it, but then I never thought that I would be able to the jabs for IVF and I managed it! Its amazing what we can do when we have to, but then you would know all about that already after a 200lb weightloss!! :)

Does your dad have any idea how long it should take to settle down?

Nina x

It's awful, yall, really awful to have to do this yourself. Keep that in mind as you consider PS/Mexico/work schedules, etc.

I'm having a pity party today.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
