This isn’t a straight forward question. What does your surgeon recommend & what do your blood tests show you need? What surgery are you having?

For example, I have a sleeve & only had to take a Multivitamin & a Vitamin D (first couple of months only). Others are advised to take Iron, Calcium, multi Bs, etc. I also didn’t continue with any Vitamins after I reached goal (didn’t need to as my blood work showed absorbed all I needed from what I ate). Others continue to take vitamins & will forever.

(I do take Vitamin D in winter as I drop a little then.)

I’m turning 60 in July and just starting to inquire into this. I can’t afford to pay for it on my own, so insurance will have to pay.

62, and scheduled for my sleeve Feb 23. I did the lap band in 2007 and it was life changing. I reached my goal weight. Then had all the complications and had to have it removed. I was told I wouldn't be a candidate for the sleeve even as I gained some weight back after the removal as I was too close to my goal weight. Now here I am 40 lbs. heavier than when I initially had the band.

Hi, I’m a year out from the Sleeve. Had it feb 23 rd 2022. I’m down almost 69 pounds, would like to lose another 11, that puts me back within normal weight range ( although at the top of the range) I’ve had to work for every pound that came off. My appetite is back to normal now I believe, so trying not to put any weight back on.

I eat a lot healthier than I used to. Still have a sweet tooth but try to keep Protein Cookies around instead of regular ones. I don’t crave the super high fat foods I used to eat.

Good luck to all just beginning their adventure! Nothing better than seeing pounds fall off!

As for Vitamins, we are told to take a multivitamin daily for life, Vit B12, Calcium and Bit D. I was giving myself B12 injections, prefer that because you only do it once a month and done. But getting the RX had been difficult. So I’m wearing B12 pads, take chewy Vit D and multivitamin. calcium chews also. My Vit D was low for awhile so I really keep up on that. I have days where I skip the vits, for the most part take them about 5 days a week.
my Vit E was low on the last panel I had done.even though I have E tabs I take two a day for fatty liver ( which is no longer!) so I’m surprised it was low.

I am almost 74. I had a lapband done in 2009 and did well, but had complications and they took all the saline out in 2012, and finally had the band taken out and getting ready to have the sleeve done sometimes in the last week in March.I remember everything about things to do to prepare and have most of everything ready for the 2 weeks liquid diet before surgery as well for the first 2 weeks post surgery.How soon will I be able to take regular medications post surgery?

Has anyone tried baby food during the purée stage?

Had the sleeve done at the age of 60. lost 85lbs and six years later gained eight back and despite my best efforts I cannot shed them. I tell everyone that I lost my weight loss super powers and now I am a mere mortal when it comes to taking weight off. One word of advice that I give to anyone getting WLS. It is not permanent the weight will come come back if you dont work to keep it off.

Congrats on your up coming surgery. I had to crush some of my tablets. You need to chat to your doctor about this because some tablets react differently. I never did the puree stage. Just looking at it made me barf. Ground meats are not for me. I had yogurt and soft cheese and soft boiled eggs, mashed. I have heard people do baby food but I never even gave it to my children, TBH at the time it was out of my range due to costs, so its not something I know about.

Just stepping into this forum ... I'm scheduled for the LSG on March 11. Frightened about complications but very very excited. I've battled my weight my entire life -- the fat small kid. But it was made so much worse by dangerously high doses of prednisone and decadron to treat my asthma. (Even as a kid I thought it wasn't professional that the family doctor would come to my house, give me the drugs and then give me a huge shot of adrenalin in the morning -- but never took me to the hospital ...)

Anyhow I'm 57 with a 42 BMI and I so want to get back to something below 30 -- and stay there! Any tips, preop advice? I'd be really grateful!

Hi mammawdd, I am 64, ok 65 in a couple of days! I had the sleeve done a year ago. On Feb 23rd. Stayed in the hospital 2 days, had b/p problems. My neck, which has arthritis and bone spurs was the most painful part of the surgery. from the intubation I had a severe headache for days after. After I got home my dog was dropped off from his boarder, his legs went bad and was in severe pain a few days after I got home. My poor German Sheppard couldn't walk with his back legs. I was recovering from surgery, drinking my Protein Drinks, running back and forth to the doggie neurologist. We ended up euthanizing him 3 weeks later, his pain was intractable. What a whirl wind!

I'm only now, one year later reliving all that I went thru after recovery. It kept my mind off of not eating. So, One year later, I'm down 59 pounds, labs are normal, fatty liver is gone! I'm trying to lose 11 more pounds, It would put me withing normal weiht for my height, although it would be at the top end. At 65 I'm, happy to be where I am.

Good luck with your journey. We didn't do the puree stage. My surgeon went from liquid to soft food, Easy stuff like Soup, cottage cheese, yogurt.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
