Any 50yo or older?

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon,
My first time on a blog. I joined today, because someone I Know is not doing very well with her procedure and it has not been two weeks. It has been 18 months since my surgery and a little over 1 year since my corrective surgery. I am struggling with the mental aspect of what I went through and what this young lady is now going through. It terrifies me that she is going through this, and I have been encouraging my three daughters to have the Gastric Sleeve surgery. I am not so sure I want them to have the surgery now. Anxiety is through the roof. Suggestions please.
Did you and the other person have the same Dr.,and the same hospital? If so encourage your daughters to seek outside of your area if they can. And see if that helps. Or check and see what is causing yours and your friends problems.

I got sleeved on my 50th birthday! I'm 11 months post-op and at goal. Everything worked well for me, no complications and the weight came off quickly. I have lost 99% of my excess weight... normal BMI, diabetes in remission, sleep apnea gone, tons of energy, and I look so much better. It's never too late!

Turned 60 in November. I had my surgery Dec 28 and have lost 36 pounds since then. I had lost 60 pounds prior to that but had staled because my metabolism was so slow. I still have about 70 pound to lose. Doctor says I should be about 40 pounds from goal by my next appointment on April 20.

This works if you are willing to do it

I’m 59. I had surgery last September on the 26. I’ve lost 49 lbs. when I weighed last on January 8th of this year. I know I’ve lost more because I’m fitting into a medium and large. It’s very hard to not graze. Try ordering from BariatricPal. Everything there is healthy you can’t miss. That’s what I’m do ping and I’m loosing weight by the week. Focus on your Protein Shakes, Water and do your Snacks. If you want sweets you can have that too. Look whatever you want to eat look for it in there. I felt like eating pancakes the other day. I ordered BariatricPal pancakes with the zero sugar. You don’t have to make a large order . Whatever you feel like eating just order it. I eat everything and since I started to get ready for my surgery last September I’ve lost 94 lbs. Try it you won’t be sorry.

Great for you! That’s wonderful, I love the bariatric store, it had wonderful Cookies that are all Protein and Fiber. They are pricey though, but worth it! I’m exactly one year out and still losing, though it had slowed considerably. I have 11 pounds to go, then will be within normal weight range. Will be at the top, but at my age, I’m not necessarily trying to get back to 120-130. If I get there, great. If not, I’m a lot healthier than I was before.

Forgot to mention that I am 60yo. Are there any older gastric sleeve patients out there?

Hi I am a year and a few months out and currently 60. Best thing I have done for myself. Just think Water, Protein and Vitamins. ALWAYS take your vitamins.

Also remember this isnt a quick fix. Its up to you to follow your meal plan and take ownership. Don't be too hard on yourself if you stumble just get right back up and start over.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.

I'm officially no longer "obese" and now classified as "overweight!" Years ago when I was 108 lbs (my old adult holding weight until the last 10 years) would I have ever thought there would come a day that I'd celebrate being "overweight!"
I hit my one year surgery anniversary next Wednesday (August 21st, 2023) and just so happen to have my final bariatric clinic check up on the same day. I'm looking forward to seeing my surgeon and being officially released into the wild! 😋
I'm curious as to what my labs will say, especially since they told me to not take my vitamins a few days before the labs. To be honest, I find this confusing since the whole point of taking vitamins is to keep your stats within normal ranges - to assure they're working as intended, yet since I quit taking them it will show I need to take them..so I'll hear "make sure to take your vitamins!" A vicious circle. Who knows why?!
Anyway, I have 40lbs to go to meet my goal and I'm really hoping I can do it in the next 6 months (for a total of 18 months post surgery). At my starting weight the charts show only 20% reach their goal within 18 months with a starting weight of 259 the day of surgery. I'd like to add that to achieved goals. Fingers crossed!
I'm amazed and thankful for everyone here on these forums who've supported me, answered my questions and understood the plight! Thank you all, you know who you are.
