I had gastric bypass in October 2021. I had a few episodes where I felt lightheaded. Until yesterday, I was able to recover and it would pass. Yesterday, I felt lightheaded and next thing I remember, I was on the floor. My son heard a something drop (turns out it was me). For clarification: I’m eating more than enough of the right foods and drinking plenty of water. I’m fine just wondering if anyone has experienced this.

I would most definitely be evaluated by your doctor. It could be simple syncope or it could be a heart rhythm issue.

I read that vasovagal syncope is common (15%) among post gastric sleeve surgery. I think our medical surgical community isn’t owning it yet!

I would definitely get this checked out. It may be related but it’s also Possible it has nothing at all to do with your surgery. Either way, it’s not worth ignoring. Your body is trying to tell you something is wrong. Hopefully it’s something simple but your doctor may want to do some tests to get to the bottom of it. First thing I would do is call and make an appt. In the mean time, pay attention to your hydration, nutrition and your blood pressure. Those things are the things that come to my mind but of course I’m not a doctor. When you stand up from lying down especially take your time. Grab hold of something if you can and don’t start walking right away. Just get your bearings. If that helps it doesn’t mean you’re cured but it could keep you from breaking something while you wait for your appointment. Best of luck.
