How soon did you eat Jello?

Recommended Posts

It's listed in my diet information as a "Stage One" food. (All of them are: Water, tea, broth, gealtin, popsicles, juice, milk, coffee). I'm just wondering how soon you guys were able to eat Jello? I'm *finally* keeping down sips of broth, tea, and coffee. I'm not ready to try Jello yet, but I'm wondering when I should be so brave?

Jonathan, you could try sipping the Jello while it's still warm and unjelled at this point. Considering your situation, though, you shouldn't try to eat any after it's jelled until you REALLY think you can keep it down.

I could eat Jello the day after surgery, but I had a VERY fast and easy recovery. By week 4, I could eat a whole Whataburger with cheese! I'm soooo bad....

they fed it to me before I left the hospital the next day. I only managed a spoon or two...but that's a start.

Jonathon--do you live anywhere near a Jamba juice or similar place? That was a nice treat during recovery. And a free Protein boost gave it nutritional value.

There is one. drinks like that scare me, though. When I was in 6th grade, my parents put me on Optifast. The first morning I had a shake was a school day, and I almost missed the bus because it tasted so bad, and my mom forced me to drink it, through my tears. I gagged, then vomited, and she still made me finish it. Because of that, to this day, a chocolate shake can make me gag, unless it's a REALLY good one. (Nevermind SlimFast.. that's not even an option.)

I know Jamba juice is different... I'll give it a try... as long as it's not chocolate flavored =) Any suggestions on something I can get there that's as far away from "slim fast/optifast" as you can get?

Jonathan, I'm so glad to hear you're doing better!! Isn't it great, the healing process? When one day is so much better than the last we have a whole new lease on life.

To answer your question, I still haven't had Jello. I hate the stuff almost as much as you hate shakes. (Horrible story, by the way. Heartbreaking. ;) ) But it's very soft and shouldn't cause a problem as soon as you feel able to move on to slightly more substantial liquids.

Good luck!

See this is so weird...I was told NO way on the Jello...it's considered a 'solid' food so I was prolly in week 4 before I was allowed to eat it...i guess it's the consistancy once it's cold...i dunno...everyone is different, and boy so are the doctors!!

Hi Jonathan,

I ate Jello the day after surgfery, if youind it hard to digest try keeping it in your mouth for a few seconds to liquify it, itis a good source of protien.

What kind of Jello do you use? The stuff I have only has 1 gram of Protein per serving. (And that's probably rounded up =) )

Jello is probably one of those foods that I used to love, but won't with the band. I liked taking big bites and let it jiggle down. When I chew it up enough to slide through, I don't like the texture anymore ;)

Hi Jonathan,

I was given Jello the day after my procedure, I had a hard time with it the first couple of days, I found smooth yogurt went down better for me. I have just come off of full liquids, it goes by quickly. there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I agree with the Jamba juice idea (or even Orange Julius is yummy). But can I recommend a cheaper/more healthy version?

1/2 cup non fat yogurt (or ice milk or low fat ice cream)

4 whole strawberries (or 1/4 banana, or whatever)

2 packets of Splenda

1/4 cup of orange juice (or whatever juice)

Ice (about 6-8 cubes will do ya)

BLEND WELL and viola! This is the one serving version. Just keep adding/double for need. BTW: Target has a new blender!!! It is a single serving cup on the go! I think it is 19.99 but the cup goes with you and has a lid for the car!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
