Mindful Moment: I'm feeling all kinds of emotions today. It's this weird mix of fear, anxiety, elation, resolve, focus, and super-charged anticipation of my future self all at once. If you may be feeling this way too, know you're not alone.

My surgery date is March 7th, just 21 days away. I've been on an 8-month journey filled with highs and lows like so many of you. As I reflect on my feelings today, I want to honor them wholeheartedly as each one of them is valid. Most of all, I felt it was important to share my feelings with others who may be feeling similarly.

While each of our journeys is that of our own, we're not alone. We all need to be reminded of that in our moments of mixed emotions.

~Meg

Very well thought out and written. My surgery is two days after yours. Best wishes to you.

Meg3722 said everything I’ve been thinking in such a poignant way. Good luck and may God be with you! My gastric bypass date is 3/7/22. Please everyone, keep me in your prayers. God bless and keep each and every one of you-those who’ve had surgery and those with upcoming surgery!

My pre-op appointments have begun! I had my pre-op physical with my GP today. She was super happy for me, which was so nice to experience since the GP I had when I had the sleeve 7 years ago wasn't happy for me at all. My current GP made sure everything was ready to go and even asked if I had post-op food ready. I'm not expecting a ton of weight loss but I know I'll have some just because of the food restriction the first couple of months. My surgeon has her patients see their GP 2 weeks after surgery for a general wellness check. I always enjoy seeing my GP because she's so good and her nurses are awesome too.

Next up is fasting labs at 7:10am this Thursday morning. ugggg, I am not very nice at that time of the morning. LOL I see my therapist at 9am so no real chance to go back to bed. I'll be taking myself out for steak and eggs, the one meal I've been craving for ages. More like 2 or 3 since I won't be able to eat it all at once. No pre-op liver shrinking diet for me. I'm not going crazy with food. I'm eating up the food in my fridge and freezer, which is mostly healthy anyhow. I may order a small pizza from a local pizza place, but that's it as far as anything special.

Next Thursday I see my surgeon's nurse for 1 hour then I'll see my surgeon for 1 hour. I hope I get to enjoy these long appointments this time. When I had them 7 years ago my homecare client who I was VERY VERY close to died that morning so I was beyond sad.

I have zero anxiety about surgery day. The pre and post op nurses and anesthesia are WONDERFUL. I'm not looking forward to waking up after being knocked out for several hours, but after I finally wake up it's usually smooth sailing for me. I'll be in the hospital for a day or two then get to go home to my 2 kitty nurses.

Just had my endoscopy this morning. Because of eoe and gastritis (and previous history of ibs and gerd), I've been switched from the sleeve to the bypass. I'm a little more nervous now. 😬

I got March 22nd surgery date. I’m so excited and scared… would love to get a few buddies in here to share our journey together. 😬

I'm 2 days after you. I'm doing the fast track "safe sleeve" with Blossom Bariatrics. I've been looking into it for quite some time. I'll be doing all the pre op testing when I get there. Literally, I fly in on Monday, meet them in person on Tuesday, testing Tuesday and Wednesday. Surgery on Thursday. Should be a whirlwind of emotion.

Do you have to "shrink" your liver? That 2 week diet is going to be hard for me. I'll be here for moral support. :)

This is so true. My surgery date is 3/2/22 and it has been a long journey getting here. I have all of these feelings as our weight loss may change relationships. I have been in much prayer that all will go well. Be blessed.

Hey, I'm scheduled for March 2nd too. I guess we're surgery twins! Lol. I'm so excited and nervous. The big day is right around the corner. Much love and blessings to you.

Get yourself some sugar free popsicles. They help with hydration and are great for that need to chew something.

Have everything set at home before you have surgery. It sucks to come home to a messy/cluttered home.

Don't bring much with you to the hospital. Phone and charger with a longer cord, eat buds or headphones pajama pants, ID, insurance card and not much else.

I’m booked in for gastric sleeve in a couple of months. Is it true that you have to go on a liquid diet 2 weeks before? I have a function a few days before surgery and will find this hard
Not every surgeon requires a special diet before surgery.

I am nervous about covid delaying and also in previous surgery I normally get sick after being put under. I am hoping I don’t throw up this time. Also I am so excited to start my new life however it’s so hard for me to imagine myself skinny. I can’t see but I am excited to see it because it will happen.

Definitely let your anesthesiologist know. They can add Zofran to your IV

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
