I am 6 weeks post op from RNY. Yes, have terrible taste in my mouth most of time. Also, my taste buds are more sensitive. I am still on liquids I have been nauseous and throwing up since surgery. I have been in hospital twice due to dehydration. Hope it gets better for you

My sleeve was 12/22. I think I am likely overeating. I am finding it really hard to get in five small meals per day, even while working from home. I am hitting my Fluid intake without issue. I am likely going to be going back to the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol diet where it makes sense - it is very high Protein, healthy fats, low carbs. I felt so great right out of the gate after surgery. Now, not so much. I just need to figure out how to follow the program better.

We are surgery twins!!! My sleeve was 12/22! I am actually starting body for life diet I used to body build and used that meal plan and workout so I’m doing it again. It’s high Protein low fat and carbs. I know I caught myself snacking small meals at first because I just couldn’t eat much and once I went to 6 small meals a day I broke the stall. It is hard to figure out food there are some really good YouTube videos out there that helped me

I struggling with my Water intake. Does anyone experience a funny taste in their mouth. I swear I hate it!!

I didn't notice a funny taste but still have difficulty drinking my Water. Before surgery, I drank it all day long. I just don't like it or want it.

I’m abt 6 weeks post op as well. I’m am able to tolerate foods. Just the Water. I tried the crystal like wild strawberry and was able to tolerate a full bottle of water. I’m afraid of becoming dehydrated. I’m doing okay with my Protein but liquids are very hard!! I hope you get better as well.

Hi, I had my sleeve done on Dec.27th. In 2 days I will be 4 weeks post-op. I've been walking more and more. I was wondering if anyone did anything else besides walking this early on? I was in the mood to play my Just Dance games on Xbox and WII but don't know that I should yet. Any comments or suggestions would be very much appreciated!!

I also had my surgery on 12-27-21. I’ve been walking as well and I also did a 1 mile hike which was amazing. I feel like I need to do more but I don’t want to over do it. I have an indoor cycling bike and I can’t wait to use it.

Hi Liz, congratulations! My RNY was 12/15/21. I haven’t been able to keep much down and extremely nauseous. I have been hospitalized twice for dehydration. I am struggling. I am still on liquids. Have you consulted with nutritionist where you had surgery ? I hope this gets better for you! If you want a Bari Buddy let me know.

Hey December folks! Just checking in to see how everyone is doing... As for me, weight loss seems to have slowed a bit, but is still progressing. I'm still finding it pretty hard to get Protein and Water in daily. I feel like its either one or the other, I just cant seem to nail both. Regardless, I'm now 45 days post op and 41 lbs down.

Hopefully everyone is safe, doing great, and well on their weight loss journey!

Sleeved Dec. 22nd and have only lost 15 lbs. a little disappointed. However, since I’m older it’s ok as I don’t want to have skin surgery. Having some difficulty getting all my Protein in, those drinks are expensive. Good to hear from you. Good luck everyone.

Hey! Sleeved 12/09/21. So far lost 44 pounds. Generally going okay, although I still find some foods really challenging (Bread of any kind, chicken, salmon).

It's weird - I feel like I can get more Protein and nutrition in if I have liquid meals (soup and shakes etc). If I have solid meals, I feel like Im able to eat so little, it hardly even feels worth cooking!

Keen to hear how everyone else is getting on.

15 lbs is still a great accomplishment, congrats!! I agree, Protein Shakes can be really pricey. I have found that juat about every pre-made shake has a powered alternative that is much more affordable. Takes less than 5 minutes to prepare them and averages about $1 per "shake" which is a much better value. Personally my "go to" is chocolate Premier Protein.

How are all of the December 2021 surgeries doing? It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. Wish I would have done this a long time ago. I've lost 32 lbs. It's still coming off slowly but again, that's ok.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
