I will still be in puréed foods for Thanksgiving! that bugged me a little, but I keep reminding myself that getting together is more important than what I eat! (though I may make a pumpkin pudding for myself to enjoy!)

Does you team allow you mashed potatoes? Physically you should be able to tolerate those too. Those and the pumpkin purée. Some teams frown upon them at any stage but during purée phase I was allowed to have them. Just be sure to plan to get in your Protein somehow.

Hi all,

Just a shout out to the November 2021 guys - how is everyone doing now?

I'm exactly 11 months post op now, 5lbs below my original goal of 160. I lost 10lbs last month after losing only 3 the previous month so stalls are clearly still a thing - I thought that was me done but apparently not!

My ideal weight (what even is that???) is 147lbs apparently, which is now 8lbs away, so the closer I can get to that the happier I will be, but I'm not setting an official new goal of anything, seems clear the loss will just stop when it stops. Then starts the *really* hard work.

I hope everyone is happy with how they are doing. Please check in and let me know - seems like yesterday we were just starting this journey together. 😍

Congratulations on you success from all the hard work. I haven't weighed myself in a couple weeks, so I don't know If I've broken through my plateau. My 1 year is on Nov 15... I wanted to be 259 by then, but I think I'll have to be happy with anything less than 269 the way things have been. I'm concentrating on increasing my Protein again and cutting out unnecessary carbs, getting more Water, etc. Hoping this will help me break through. I'll report back again in a few weeks.

Just checking in with my November buddies again. I'm 10 months post surgery. Weight lost 111lbs, BMI 24.4 so I've only lost 3lbs in the last month. One week did include a vacation when I didn't track my intake and had a bit more alcohol to drink than usual. Life's gonna be like that.

My goal (that I set 10 months ago and never believed I could ever reach) is now 5lbs away and it feels like I'll probably make it. This surgery is the best thing I have ever done for myself.

How's everyone else getting along? Lots of us must be close to or at our goal weight now. Anyone not doing so well and needing some support?

How very glad to hear you're still doing great and almost there to your goal. I have kinda stalled for the last 2 months or so. But it's also cuz I have been travelling and wasn't following the plan to the T. I do want to lose another 10 or 15. Let's see if I make it. I am kinda happy with 120 but a bit wary of the 10-20 pounds bounce that can happen in year 2 or 3. Hence, I want to make myself steady around 105 or so, so even if I were to gain a little, I'll be alright.

That is EXACTLY where my head is at the minute D&S! Happy (SO happy!) with where I am now, but if I lose a little more it'll be a cushion against any bounce back. Travelling makes everything just that little bit harder - I hope you can lose a bit more if that gets you to your happy place 😍Looking forward to the big anniversary next month

Official one year doctor appointment over. 271 was the official weigh in at doctor's office... this translates to an overall loss of 132. Yeah right... Lol

Doc was not very happy with my progress in the last couple months. My weightloss "really stagnated" since my 8 month appointment. Yeah, it was less, but to be fair, the 8 month appointment was really a 9 month appointment by the time we were able to meet. It was a zoom appointment which means the weight I provided them was from my home scale and not with clothes on in their office, and finally, I've been hitting the gym much harder in the last few months... so I know there is new muscle to be accounted for. ... BUT, no excuses right.

His goal for me is another 30 pounds off in the next 6 months. He doesn't seem to buy into the idea that I have been recomping at the gym at all. His basic message to me was start tracking everything I eat don't go over 1500 calories per day and get serious for the next 6 months. He does want me to use a scale that can track body fat / lean muscle measurements, so I may need to buy one.

So, the report from my doctor was sort of "good job the first 9 months... but what's going on now!?"

I'm back to tracking my intake and I need to report back to my dietitian in the next week.

I hope this was a pep talk and not a lecture! If it helps you refocus then brilliant. You've already done so well, he's probably just willing you to go further.

I came here to wish all my November 2021 friends a happy anniversary. I'm just past mine, pretty much done losing at this point I think - I've lost 1lb in the last 5 weeks, but I am maintaining without too much thought. I still do track every single bite I eat, just out of habit, and I think I need to! It would be so easy to slip.

I hope you are all happy with where you are, and that those of us who still have a bit to go can keep it up! Would you have believed a year ago you would lose what you have? I certainly wouldn't. 🤩

Just for the record I weigh 154lbs, that's a total loss of 122lbs since 2 months pre-op and 97lbs since the day of surgery. I'm maintaining on about 1400 calories a day on weekdays and probably 1700-1800 at the weekend because I drink alcohol then.

I had the sleeve surgery yesterday. I feel great. The esophagus spasms have been the worst part. Prior to surgery I had lost 36 pounds, 10 inches and 4% body fat. Y’all keep going. It will be worth it!

My surgery is November 4 with Dr. Fok Russell through Medicalmex in Tijuana. I live in Missouri and wish I could've had it here but my insurance didn't cover.

I hope that your surgery went well and you are seeing great results! I have my surgery scheduled with Dr Fok coming up 12/14... I am traveling alone, so I am curious about how everything went for you. Were you comfortable with Dr. Fok, and how are the facilities.

How was your experience with MedicalMex? I can’t find a lot of info about them online. I hope it’s going great for you so far!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
